Fighting for the top four of the newly rebranded English Football League Premier Division whilst watching the 'Big Six' battling it out in the newly formed 'European Premier League'

The two newly formed leagues will not, I repeat NOT, include Celtic or Rangers :)

Not in the Premier League - but that won't be a bad thing as many over League clubs will go bust

Tend to agree with Selby on this. I think a European league is inevitable (and welcome in my view). It will be good on two levels I think. First it will be a decent spectacle with the biggest clubs in Europe vying for supremecy and, if it works out, will probably be very competitive, given the nature of the clubs in it. Secondly it will mean we rid ourselves of the big 6 (but maybe not ALL of them) to create a much more equal playing field at home. Even if some of the big 6 don't make it (and I can't see how they could really given the necessity to allocate numbers to countries unless they create some kind of second division) they wouldn't be as powerful as the money from the English league would probably be greatly diminished and they would have to spend accordingly. Money would come more from genuine income as the days of the billionaire owner would probably be over because the 'glamour' would be far less.
I would welcome this because (and I know some wouldn't agree) I couldn't care less if I never saw United or Arsenal or Chelsea play again, apart from in another league, I'm sick of the sight of the big clubs and all the publicity they get, and I'm even more sick of their fans thinking that teams like Burnley are just an interuption to their otherwise glorious existence.

I'd like that.

For the frist time since our awful collapse in '62 and the abolition of the maximum wage we'd have a chance to possibly win the league.

The big clubs can eff off for my liking.

I’ll not lose any sleep when the big boys fxxx off, they will soon lose interest when they can’t get to the games every week and all of a sudden that dump inbred town of Burnley for an away game won’t be such a bad thing after all.

I have nothing against a Euro Super League but it will generate that much money it will take cash out of the PL and even worse the clubs in it should be given an ultimatum one or t’other. I can see them earning enough to play a B team in the PL and still pinching all the best of the rest players.
How will it work if the season ending before it starts has Leicester, Wolves and Burnley in the top 6?
Will there be promo/rele or will it be a closed shop?

What happened in 1962 ? I thought we still performed pretty well for the next few years and finished 3rd at least once ?

Won only once in the last 10 games to lose out on the title to Ipswich.

You do realise that without the bigger clubs there is absolutely no interest in other levels of football. Basically any chance of Burnley players representing their country will be gone, for example.

Top at the end of March. The legs had gone when we lost at Boro and we never found them again. They deserved better.

How do you explain so many of the England team coming from teams outside the traditional top 6 then ?

But without the big clubs in any subsequent 'English' league the school of thought is likely to be those remaining players aren't able to play against the best opposition, which is required to play at International level. Similar as it is now in that few players from Championship level get picked to play for England.

But that’s going to reduce the pool of players he can choose from significantly given how many foreign players play for the top 6 teams.
Anyway we digress !
More importantly how can the top teams breakaway when the others would never vote for it ? Doesn’t it take 14 teams to vote in favour ? (Or something like that)

People have been predicting this European superpower league for the last 15 years.

A very good chance. Won away at Coventry 3-0 and if Arsenal could have got something from Everton on the same day we would have gone top. They didn't and the following week at home to Liverpool we 'murdered' them in the first half but only had a Ray Hankin goal to show for it. Tried to protect the lead in the 2nd half but conceded a goal to Terry McDermott. We'd peaked and there were still a number of.matches remaining. Think we let in 11 goals over 3 matches at Easter.

Football will go on without them. It might surprise some to know that only in the world of the media do the big six need to exist - I don't need them - do you bud? Football all over the globe exists without the money and the publicity that exists in the PL and they do okay out of it. Do we really want the diving and cheating devas of the big clubs? Do we need the moaning complaining managers who can't handle it when they don't get a routine win? Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know, but I sure as hell wouldn't miss any of the whole circus.

If the big 6 pulled out of the EPL the Sky tv big bucks would vanish also. We would then be relying on having a sugar daddy (we have never had one in the club's history unlike our nearest and dearest neighbours,so good luck with that one) or our gate receipts, which compared with such clubs as Forest, Derby, Leeds, Wednesday etc will never be sufficient. Welcome to a rerun of the 1980s and 1990s which for those of us who witnessed them would not repay a second viewing.

How anyone can be tired of playing the big 6 after our last two matches is beyond me. Arteta's waffle about the length of the grass and Arsenal fan's incomprehension that a crowd at a live game can actually involve themselves in it by booing the opposition are comedy gold and surely what being a Burnley fan is all about. We 've lost none of our identity but are privileged to watch in Charlie Taylor and Dwight Mcneil two of England's finest young players. What not to like? And yes I consider 26 to be young!

Would it come to a vote of the Premier League clubs or would the top 6 just resign from the Premier in a Sixit? Hopefully it won't be dragged out as long as Brexit :D

62 - top at Christmas. Form dropped off massively towards the end of the season as injuries and fatigue set in.

We finished 3rd in '66 but that was the exception rather than the rule. We were already fighting against the tide, already the last of the small town teams doing well. And although we finished 3rd I don't think we were ever seriously title contenders, we were just the best of the also rans who managed to finish the season well. I believe me looked more like title challengers in '74 with the newly promoted "team of the 70s".

Of course, being born in '81 this is all folklore and legend to me.

I'm just parroting what I've heard.

I don't really get why this works from a commercial perspective either. Is the premier league (and la liga, serie A etc) + champions league combined not more valuable than decimating each domestic league in favour of a single European super league?

The recruitment failure to bring in none UK/Irish players
How awful the midfield is and reminiscing about when we had Hendrick playing
If only we had a pacey winger
How bad the country is due to Brexit
