MOBO awards
MOBO awards
After all the rhetoric from Prince William and Joaquin Phoenix about diversity at awards ceremonies does anyone think that the MOBO awards are still PC.

Listened to a podcast with Daryl Davis a black musician from America who converted over 200 kkk members from the Klan.karatekid wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:10 pmAfter all the rhetoric from Prince William and Joaquin Phoenix about diversity at awards ceremonies does anyone think that the MOBO awards are still PC.

He says in his recent interview that he respects everything the likes of the incredible martin luther king and rosa parks etc did. And black history month etc had its place. But now believes that these things should be replaced. As history is history. Be it black. White. Native American etc. And having such things actually continues to highlight segregation etc.
I am inclined to agree.
History is history. Music is music. People is people imo.

Yes but I thought Sugar pie DeSanto should have won that year but that’s show business.

Most modern music is music of black origin so yes it still has a place. Most of the music celebrated by the MOBO awards is shite, mind.

Re: MOBO awards
Do you think there would be uproar if a MOWO was held?
I do, and I think White musicians being excluded from a music awards event, due to the colour of their skin is racist and fuels division.

Re: MOBO awards
Clearly black music - specifically blues - is a very strong contributor to the music that then forms the basis of new western popular music in the second half of last century. But so is country and western and folk music and 'classical' music (either directly or as an influence on composition). Not to mention the new sounds other people of all races introduced post-1957. So, in fact, it's a rather lovely melting pot and can't be assigned one way or the other.duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 7:25 pmMost modern music is music of black origin so yes it still has a place. But we (white people) have been very naughty and bad and intolerant and racist in the past so this is ok now.
Re: MOBO awards
God imagine celebrating a white music awards in the bizarre current diversity push.
Diversity is great unless you are white then it stinks as you feel like you owe something and must tread incredibly carefully not to offend.
I'm black and proud ! Sounds a lot less dangerous than I am white and proud which sounds racist.
Is it ok to be white proud and celebrate your heritage without being KKK ?
Just a question as I don't really understand the world at the moment.

There's good intentions with things like this but I can't help thinking it reinforces a "them and us mentality" amongst people.
Personally can't help thinking if there was white only events people would go ape ****

Sam Smith won one, I think. Sam Smith. Was Ed Sheeran not also nominated once?

I couldn't give a toss. Just wondered if any carp were nibbling tonight . I caught one but let him go as I am too tired to reel in.
It is funny seeing the woked nibble at anything .

I must admit that I have long wondered how, in this day and age of political correctness, that this slightly racist ceremony can still go ahead. I have said this for years. If it is allowed, which in itself is not a problem, then surely a white music ceremony should also be allowed? If not why not?
I suspect that any organiser of a specifically white music awards would be hung out to dry by our PC friends.

Anyone would think that white people couldn't make music of black origin the way posters on here are bashing the MOBOs.

Re: MOBO awards
It is the title not the event. I fully understand what it IS and what it DOES. The point I think you are missing that many are making is that if an event specifically had the word WHITE in its title, whatever it did, it would be smacked down by the PC establishment. It is not disimilar to say Gay Pride, not in any way a bad thing in itself but what would be said if someone organised a Straight Pride day?
If I seem to be splitting hairs here it's because that is exactly what PC does a great deal of the time.
I personally don't have any problems with groups doing things their own way, it's all part of personal choice and freedom, but unfortunately others do not see it that way and only protect the rights of 'some'. I'm more interested in the rights of 'all'.

It lots its credibility for me when the black and white minstrels consistently and unbelievably failed to win anything. I'm not surprised they threw away the banjos and put white make up on to feel wanted.

Really? I think Mozart might have an argument. English folk? ANY folk? Music has developed a long way from tribal drums, which is generally considered the first form of music.
