Lyrics you heard wrong

Post by FactualFrank » Tue Feb 04, 2020 7:24 pm

George Michael - Careless Whisper

When I was younger (like about 7) instead of "Guilty feet have got no rhythm" I thought it was, "Super Ted has got no rhythm".

Any more ridiculous lyrics you misheard?

'Gimme shelter' by 'The Rolling Stones'

Where it goes "it's just a shot away"

I always thought it was "it's so shadowy"

I remember another.

Do you know the "Simply having a wonderful Christmas time" line, by Paul McCartney?

I thought it was "Zippy's having a wonderful Christmas time".

It will be no surprise to know, I watched a lot of children's TV programmes as a kid!

There is a book called ‘ Excuse me while I kiss this guy’ which is about misheard lyrics.

Years ago a girl I used to know used to sing along to Bad moon rising by CCR and thought JF sang “ there’s a bathroom on the right”

A line in Bat out of hell....

I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering ram
On Cilla Blacks Fat bottom bike
When the metal is hot, and the engine is hungry
And we're all about to see the light

Should be

I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering ram
On a silver-black phantom bike
When the metal is hot, and the engine is hungry
And we're all about to see the light

Billy Ocean - thought the chorus was "go and get stuffed not "going gets tough"

Bon Jovi - "it doesn't really matter if we're naked or not" rather than "if we make it or not"

Police singing about 'Sue Lawley'

The Mrs seems to think that REM’s sidewinder sleeps tonight is not “call me when you try to wake her up” and is in fact “coming to Jamaica”.......

Very annoying it is too...

Mine used to chant "beardman" instead of "Vietnam" at the end of the track of the same name by Lars Fredericksen and the Blackburns.
Not sure how many of you will know that one though.

Well to be fair, its over 40 years on, and I still have trouble deciphering some of Geddy's singing - on the Fly by Night album in particular.

Gladys Knight and the Pips - You're the Best thing that ever happened to me.

I thought the chorus started -"if Billy Bonds should ever write my life story!.....it is actually "If anyone should ever write.........."

I still hear it my way even now.

Elton John's "Honky Cat"

"When I look back, boy, I must have been green
Bopping in the country, fishing in a stream"

Thought it was (and still do!)…..

When I look back, boy, I must have been green
Bopping in the country, pis*ing in a stream

Sorry. I was just pointing out that the original lyric under discussion wasn't a Rush lyric; it was Paul Simon's - which Peart echoed on 'Spirit of Radio'

Most disco songs of the late 70's early 80's.
Was sure it was the same lyric.
