I was there that day, Gilzean broke my heart!

If I remember correctly a special train ran from Burnley for the game leaving Burnley Central and then stopped at Blackburn to pick up Rovers fans for their cup tie at West Ham.

Dont think that would happen these days!

Remember that game like it was yesterday. We had some incredible games against Tottenham around that time.

Willie Irvine was unplayable that day, in fact he scored 37 goals over the course of the '65/'66 season.

Watching the 5 nations at home. Da with radio to his ear. 2-0 up in 6 minutes we were laughing. What a kick in the teeth.

A very exciting game, one of the best. Travelled from Reading Univ to the match with fellow student, a Spurs supporter. At that time Spurs and Burnley undoubtedly the best teams in England, hat tricks from Irvine and Gilzean but Burnley sadly on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline. Despite this, probably one of the top 10 games I have seen.

Even managed a couple of shots of Roland from Grange Hill too. Didn't realise that he was that old

Was my first ever visit to White Hart Lane - believe it or not I travelled on a shared special train with Blackburn fans who were at West Ham.

We literally couldn't get away from Tottenham around that time in the FA Cup and invariably ended up on the wrong side of a result, the semi-final in '61, final in '62 and the game at the link '66. And yet each time our players were a credit to the Club showing humility in the major disappointment of defeat.
The one exception was in '63 in the third round, just a few short months after the Cup Final defeat, when we ripped them to shreds at White Hart Lane in a 3-0 win. And how did they react??........they couldn't accept defeat and a few of their players lost the plot completely. Always been proud of our Club but never moreso than that win on a snow covered pitch in London.

I think that I must have been there but don't remember it being a cup game. I must have been very young but definitely remember being 2-0 up after a few minutes only to lose 4-3 in the end. It had to be that game as I've checked and there was no league result with the same outcome around that time.

The 1963 game. Definite penalty at the end when Connelly goes flying.

Ideal pitch for Arteta's boys. The grass is short and non existent in many places and the pitch looks well watered.

Cheers for that Stan Tastic. A definite penalty at the end and could easily have been 4 or 5 at a time when Tottenham rarely lost a game.

Look at their winger Dyson at the end, he loses the plot completely.

Yes I was there and as a 14 year old living in the South in Dunstable it was my first ever Burnley game that I attended

I went there on my own and somehow I managed to find myself watching the game in with the Spurs supporters behind one of the goals

At that age I had no fear and maybe no sense so when we took the lead I remember celebrating and making fun of them even though I was in with the Tottenham fans

And their fans of course returned the favour when they took the lead and eventually won the match

What a game!!!!

Was Dyson the one that Adam Blacklaw chased around WHL?

Dyson can't have been that bright. It must have been widely known that you just didn't upset Adam Blacklaw nor Andy Lochhead in that team. You can probably include Gordon Harris too.

I was the 3-4 defeat and was gutted, not able believe Willie could score a hat trick and be on the losing side. I saw everyone of the goals he scored that season.
The 1960 cup tie film, showed someone in the crowd wearing a University hat. He followed Burnley to a lot of games and I think he came from Cambridge and was known as the professor. Also Bobby Driver(the voice) with his Fez on would have been there. Spurs supporters would wonder what happened to all the flat caps often wore by us, around the time.

He used to walk round the pitch perimeter at the Turf in full claret and blue cap and gown handing out sweets to the kids at the front, a bit like the Toffee Lady at Goodison.

Is it just me, but when I see old footage of Jimmy Adamson I am reminded visually of Dwight McNeil?
