Summer transfer window goes back
After two years being out of line with the rest of Europe, the transfer window for Premier League clubs will close this year on 1st September.
Weekend of 8th August for start of Premier League too.

Which suggests August 1st for the football league which is about as early as it can get. Never known any league fixtures to commence in July though they do in Scotland I believe.

Re: Summer transfer window goes back
The Scottish fixtures in July are the Betfred (League) Cup. I've been to a few in the last couple of years:
Dundee Utd vs East Fife, St. Johnstone vs Brechin City, Elgin vs Hibernian and Motherwell vs Annan Athletic last season, all in 5-6 days.
The season we played Aberdeen, we went to Arbroath vs Ross County on the way up and Livingston vs Berwick Rangers (At Linlithgow Rose's ground!) on the way back down.

So the frantic and frenetic activity in the transfer window will last even longer.
Pure joy.
Pure joy.

Instead of panicking on July 31st we can do the same on August 31st instead. Another month of b*ggering about.

Re: Summer transfer window goes back
Gives us a slight advantage if a lot of teams do their transfer business late in the window. It means for a few weeks at least we won't be the only team to do bugger all business and not have improved the team

Good gives us more chance to land several targets

Sky and Jim White will love itClaret Toni wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2020 2:51 pmSo the frantic and frenetic activity in the transfer window will last even longer.

Why oh why can't footballs legislaters say "no more to media inspired garbage" and get rid of the transfer window. It may be great for Sky but I can't see what it does for football
Re: Summer transfer window goes back
Decent news, if we get off to a great start and dont progress in the cup, theres no need to panic buy or pay over inflated prices.
Also widens our market into Europe and beyond.

" media inspired garbage " were Sky involved in creating Transfer Windows ?
Re: Summer transfer window goes back
According to Wikipedia, transfer windows were made compulsory by FIFA in 2002-03 and England were no more than lukewarm to the idea.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm thereClaret Toni wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2020 2:51 pmSo the frantic and frenetic activity in the transfer window will last even longer.

Re: Summer transfer window goes back
As much as I think if we have windows they should be shut before the season starts but this makes sense as long as we know the rest of the world won’t join us. We knew this before we went along with it not sure if it was pure arrogance, idiocy or mix of both that made us think the rest of the world would follow us.
Re: Summer transfer window goes back
I think it was the knowledge that the Premier League is the favoured destination of almost all players because it's where the most money is, so we weren't really losing out much by having different dates from the rest of Europe; and the belief (surely correct) that it's better to get it done before the season. They tried it, they decided it was better after all to coincide with Europe and lose those weeks at the start of the season.JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 8:55 pmAs much as I think if we have windows they should be shut before the season starts but this makes sense as long as we know the rest of the world won’t join us.
