What's this !!!!?Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 2:55 pmFirstly ban all flights from China Japan and Singapore .
Instead of not releasing the names of people infected, release the name and movements and anyone who knows they came into contact with them to isolate themselves.
The man from Singapore, was out and about for 4 days before going to hospital.
The person who came back from France to London, do not know how long he was about before being diagnosed.
I hope I am wrong but I fear in two weeks time the number of cases in the UK will start to climb.

Re: Coronavirus
For simply suggesting that, had border posts been maintained across Europe . Instead of being allowed to fall into disrepair as part of the EUs free movement of people policy. Then individual governments would now be in a better position to help in the process of quarantining, as we've seen in Austria and Slovenia.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 2:55 pm

Some good facts here
But if you'd been in a hole for three months and then read that article, I don't think you'd be able to guess what impact this novel virus is having on everyday life. So it must be missing something important.

This graph is interesting (latest observation 6%). Of course the fact that it's multiple outbreaks being managed differently with clearly different reporting standards doesn't help and the continued overweight of the original epicentre is testament to the limitations of the spread but still, interesting.Zlatan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 8:24 amthis made me chuckle...

You dont know, neither do I.
Now, while you're here, I'd love you to explain your thought process that went into you labelling me "a racist".Gordaleman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 8:57 amNow we all know you're a racist. What a load of old tosh
I said - "in many parts of europe , thanks to the EUs policies, the borders between nations are non existent and the physical infrastructure of former checkpoints, has been allowed to fall into disrepair. Had it not, border checks would have surely helped in quarantining."
Tell me, what is "racist" about my suggestion that people , the vast majority being the same race as me . Having their movement restricted by functioning border posts. In order to help quarantining which would help to possibly slow down the spread of a virus amongst people on the other side of the border post, who similarly, the vast majority would be the same race as me?
What's "racist" about, ultimately, wanting to protect people , who are the same race as me!?
Secondly, when these border posts were manned and functioning and restricted movement of people.
1, Were the staff , who operated them, "racist"
Yes or no?
2. Were the governments , like France, Belgium for instance, "racist" governments for restricting movement of people?
Yes or no?
Finally , the Austrian and Slovenian governments have imposed tight border restrictions as a way of both helping the Italian government in their quarantining program, and , presumably protecting their own citizens.
Are the Austrian and Slovenian governments "racist"
Yes or no?

Having not taken those actions it’s now global and pointless stopping flights.
So I made the point to contain the virus where it was.

I simply said that "in many parts of europe , thanks to the EUs policies, the borders between nations are non existent and the physical infrastructure of former checkpoints, has been allowed to fall into disrepair. Had it not, border checks would have surely helped in quarantining."
It was you that wanted a blanket ban on flights coming from certain countries!!
It was you the guy that throws the "racist" label around like it's going out of fashion that wants to "keep people out!!
It was you that compared me to Adolf Hitler, a tyrant responsible for the deaths of millions.
Why? For simply suggesting that had border posts been maintained, they could help in the process of quarantining!
And yet. And yet! You pick on the people of china, Singapore and Japan for banning from setting foot in this country Lowbank!
Why is that? Is it because they're, by and large , a different race to you!?
I put it to you that, rather than me, for being concerned about people who, the majority , are the same race as me being racist. Its actual you !!
I'm going to get onto the mods and see about getting you banned!

This afternoon's budget looks as though it could be very interesting. There is definitely going to be some sort of fiscal stimulus to help smaller companies and it could even extend to giving everyone in the country an amount of money to go out and spend, to help those companies. Not very likely, but it could happen.

A small piece of information.
If your click on a persons name on a thread. It brings up a new screen .
There is a select Add Foe.
If you add that person to your foe list, their posts contents are hidden from view but you can see they have posted
You can unhide the post to read it if you wish.
It may be worth some people doing this as I have today.

I do think the two people’s remarks were made in different contexts, but that’s open for other people judgements.
Back when I said ban flights there were 3-4 countries infected and I was hopeful it could be contained.
Unfortunately some countries are thinking a total lockdown is the only way to fight this.
There are some countries who are being successful using far less serious measure, which we need to learn from. But we are not doing. Take Taiwan as one example.

'Fatalities up by 26% worldwide'
According to Reuters, fatalities were up by more than 26 per cent globally by 2am today compared to the same time a day earlier.
The news agency's latest tally showed there were more than 119,000 cases of coronavirus worldwide and 4,296 deaths linked to the virus as of 2am GMT today.
This is an increase of about 5,000 cases from the same time on Tuesday, when there were 114,300 cases and 4,026 deaths.
The death toll in Italy jumped by 168 to 631 on Tuesday - an increase of 36 per cent, which is the largest rise in absolute numbers since the contagion came to light on 21 February.

He says he said this could be a measure that helps to stop the spread of a virus
This is not racist

that may well be accurate, but unless she has qualified it with a time-frame it's absolutely pointless as 58-68% may get it after a vaccine has been developed and is being used, if you understand what I mean.thatdberight wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 11:53 amAngela Merkel says 60-70% of Germans to get the virus. Re: Coronavirus
what seems a little odd to me, and I say this because I have not read or heard about from anyone anywhere, so maybe someone here will have some insight:
Given it's a virus, it spreads, we know it kills, we know there is no vaccine as of yet and will be quite a while before there is, therefore my simple logic is it will affect a lot more people as we move forward, yes all known. However when we have the flu there is a vaccine, it "appears" to come out in winter and kills tens of thousands, similarly it is the old and those with existing conditions. So I know not the same but similar in many aspects.
If we jump forward to winter 2020/21 and let's say/hope there is a vaccine (I know doubtful but humour me please) will there, do you expect mass panic, self isolation every year for the foreseeable future as I am convinced the vaccine will not eradicate it totally, appreciate your thoughts on this?

I still cant help but wonder if the same media outcry and publicity was applied to child hunger for example would there be the same response. I know there wouldn't be, because child hunger is "normalised" across the modern world, but pick any disease - if it doesn't affect first world countries, no one actually gives a crap - as soon as politicians get affected it's a major problem...

Re: Coronavirus
Kate, the problem with the flu vaccine is that flu comes in a number of different forms, a number of different viruses, so when they prepare a vaccine they have to guess which strain is mostly likely to be active that winter. And in most years, several strains of flu virus are active so the vaccine can give only limited protection. Added to which, those who are most vulnerable often have weaker immune systems which means that they develop only limited immunity even to those strains of flu they are vaccinated against.
From what I have read, the Covid-19 virus is so far occurring in a single form so if and when a vaccine is developed it will be effective against that virus. The problem of limited immunity being acquired by the elderly will still remain, however, due to the limited ability of their immune systems to respond to vaccination.

Re: Coronavirus
It’s Truely hard to say what’s going to happen going forward.KateR wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 12:53 pmwhat seems a little odd to me, and I say this because I have not read or heard about from anyone anywhere, so maybe someone here will have some insight:
Flu mutates each year hence we get sick each year, some versions are more serious than others.
I was sent home yesterday for the second time in 4 weeks with seasonal flu, feel like crap today, last year I got all three versions.
It maybe correct that this Covid virus might mutate and future winters we might as you say have to get used to higher death tolls. We will have to wait and see.
As my mum put it last night, this has the potential to solve the crisis in old people’s care and the pension crisis.
If this did become a yearly thing, I suggest ours lives would change significantly if that happens.
