Re: Coronavirus
Went to the supermarket again yesterday. Had very few people in, had everything I wanted in stock but shelves for toilet roll were very low. What is the deal with toilet roll? Of all the things you'd think people would panic buy. Tinned food, non-perishables, pasta anything with a long shelf life. It's bog roll that they're worried about.

Re: Coronavirus
As I posted before the numbers appear to settle for 3-4 days and then it doubles. Today we see the step double from 50-60 each day up to 130’s . Numbers of this magnitude are likely to announce each day till around Tuesday when it’s likely to double again.
What needs to happen is all people who are showing symptoms be tested.
Currently only if you have been to a red zone or been in definite contact with a confirmed case can you get a test. That needs to change immediately

True. At the end of the day you can have a crap and then jump in the shower to wash your backside clean. I wonder if boxes of tissues have also cleared, or kitchen roll.Claret32yrs wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 2:32 pmWent to the supermarket again yesterday. Most of the nation's tissues and toilet paper are made in Manchester, and yesterday they said they had about 65 million rolls in stock. It's just a matter of getting it out to the supermarkets.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 2:37 pmTrue. There's always 'Izal Toilet Paper'. Don't know if you remember that. That was one unforgiving (still is apparently) loo roll. Re: Coronavirus
Low bank claret is correct, widespread and efficient testing is key. Here is an interesting article from a virologist at the Francis Crick Institute
This was written nearly a week ago
In countries where rapid testing and isolation do not happen, the disease will at its peak rapidly overwhelm the ability of hospitals to cope, and the case fatality rate will be much higher. The global case fatality rate is above 3 per cent at the moment, and if – reasonable worst case scenario – 30-70 per cent of the 7.8 billion people on earth are infected, that means between 70 and 165 million deaths. It would be the worst disaster in human history in terms of total lives lost. Nobody expects this, because everyone expects that people will comply with efficient public health measures put in place by responsible governments.
...
I received an email from a colleague in infectious diseases. His message was in no way reassuring. He made three main points:
1. This is not business as usual. This will be different from what anyone living has ever experienced. The closest comparator is 1918 influenza.
2. early social distancing is the best weapon we have to combat Covid-19.
3. Humanity will get through this fine, but be prepared for major changes in how we function and behave as a society until either we’re through the pandemic or we have mass immunisation available.
I am writing in haste. This is a fast-moving situation, and the numbers are constantly changing – certainly the ones I have given here will be out of date by the time you read this. What’s very clear is that we must comply immediately with whatever measures competent public health authorities urge us to take, even if they seem disproportionate. It’s time to increase ‘social distance’ in all sorts of ways. And wash your hands.

I heard somewhere it was just 10,000 that doesnt seem a lot.
Considering the overall number of confirmed cases is low the number of high profile people confirmed with it seems high.
Are they paying privately for tests ?

Re: Coronavirus
Just watching Nicola Sturgeon on Sky.
She is saying they not going to attempt to test all people who are showing Symptoms.
I think that’s a bad bad idea.
Apart from it hiding the actual numbers, people will be unlikely to self isolate if they have not been tested.

I was looking at buying shares in a company that makes the tests but missed the boat , they went from 15p to £1.50 in a couple of days.
A mobile test centre has been set up in Wolves but 111 have to get you an appointment, as I say you need to have been to a red zone or been in contact with a confirmed case to get an appointment.
High profile people, I agree there seems to be a high proportion.
My guess is the test is cheap so they could be paying for it.

Mrs Pauline Latham (Mid Derbyshire) (Con)
My constituents have developed a test for the virus. They are selling it all round the world, but we are not using it in this country. It costs £5. It is working, and it gives a result within 10 minutes—it is a quick, cheap way to do it. May I urge the Secretary of State to ask the Department to investigate that and ensure that we are using the most effective test possible?
Matt Hancock
Yes, absolutely. My hon. Friend has brought that to my attention before. We have done research into it, and we are working with over two dozen commercial companies that have tests of this kind. In fact, I had a meeting on this today.

Aussie F1 Grand Prix off. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/51849163
Just two days ago, the Aussies said it would go ahead complete with crowds.
I think this is more down to a team pulling out than anything else though.

Two Hass employees were in isolation.
As pointed out above, it seems strange there so many high profile cases.
Aus has about 130 cases and could be 3 F1 employees seems disproportionate.

You just never know for sure, it’s crossed my mind with culling the elderly population some sort of Brexit reversal as the elderly overwhelmingly voted leave, it’s far fetched & incredible to be true perhaps. I’m not 1 for believing in conspiracy stories the door of doubt always seems to be ajar with some of them & not firmly shut.

That said though, children who have comprised immune systems should 100% be extra careful ....anyone see any substance to this?
