Ok, so far his explanation is acceptable. I think he has displayed some genuine humility in this press conference.

The point to note as far as I can assess that was not immediately apparent was the threat he felt in his London home, and I can understand his position.

If only the detail had been more transparent in the first place it could have saved a lot of fuss.
I’m actually in two minds about this now. At first he displayed some humility but now he’s become arrogant again.

Perhaps that is the purpose of this shitshow... to divide the opinion and deflect attention from what actually happened.

I don't think it is, but it gets filed under something else in most cases, such as drunk and disorderly when people do it on a night out.

It's the Castle Bernard trip i don't get,how was that essential travel?

And if he didn't stop on the trip from London he must have been belting it up the motorway.Especially given his wife was ill and he had a 4 year-old in the car.

Agreed, the rest I have some time for, but the, I needed to test my eyesight, so I took my whole family for a drive, ended up in a tourist spot, felt sick, so walked for 15 minutes line is really laughably bad.

He's lying through his teeth. Thinks he has dodgy eyesight so he drives 30 miles. With his 4 year old in tow.

I just cannot believe how stupid he thinks we all are. This is supposed to be an intelligent guy who understands 'the people'.

2 things I'd like to know....

1 - Does his wife have a driving licence? He's innsinuating he had to test his eyesight by driving to Bernard Castle, if he's not done this and set off to London, he could have been stranded halfway if his sight failed. Surely his wife would complete the journey if she has a licence.

2- his home had been targeted, I wouldn't dispute this as a possibility, however, have all 3 family members returned to London because I can see his home most definitely being a target now?

I can't see how Cummings can survive this and nor should he. Suspect more will come out which makes his position increasingly untenable - the trip to the castle could be an interesting one.

What are the rules on looking after children?

Dominic Cummings has defended his actions by saying that “the rules made clear that if you are dealing with small children, then that can be exceptional circumstances”.

The stay at home guidelines say people who live with someone who develops symptoms "must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days".

However, the same guidance document also says that “we are aware that not all these measures will be possible” if you are living with children.

On Friday, Dr Jenny Harries, the deputy chief medical officer for England, pointed out that "risk to life" would be a valid reason to break lockdown rules.

Back in March, Dr Harries said that if both parents were unable to look after a small child and had no access to family or other support, they should get help from the local authority.

I guess his argument could be that he had family support available, but whether that justifies travelling the distance he did is open to debate.

And at the time of travel he was well enough to drive 300 miles or so,if he was well enough to do that surely he well enough to tend to a toddler.

I found it hard to believe anything he says when he can come out with such gems as - I went for a drive to see if I could drive. Gobsmacking that's he's still in the job. He drew up these rules and quite clearly they don't apply to him.
