That’s an interesting thought.

Have a go at myself, then constantly cry that I had a go at myself whilst ignoring my alternate ego.
I apologise. I just wish you’re posts weren’t always reaffirming how you’ve been saying it for weeks. We know, and a lot of what you’ve said I agree with, some of what you’ve said is wrong.

My comment was because Ringo constantly goes on about himself all the time and I don’t want you to do that too

Getting rumbles on the grapevine that the military are prepared for a complete shutdown from tomorrow...
Just heard something similar from one of our suppliers on the phone, although nothing specific about a lockdown.

Rumours of the Reserves being called up and people claiming to have seen tanks and other military vehicles/equipment being mobilized.

Zlatan, you just posted a link to validate your assertion that troops could be on the streets tomorrow. Before you removed the link, I had a quick look and saw nothing of the sort. Is that why you removed it?

No - it wasn’t a link to specific information, but an organisation where my “source” is based. Hindsight told me to remove it promptly as it may have been misunderstood - apologies

AT THIS TIME:
I really don't care where the virus started
I really don't care what caused it

The above is because I am 100% positive that teams of professional people will be working on the above and will in due time provide definitive details to the best of there knowledge as experts in these fields.

I really care about how it is spreading, where is it reducing, hopefully providing an indication to where the rest of the world goes.
I really care about where are they are on a vaccine and interim testing on existing medicines that could/may prove beneficial in the fight against the virus
I really care about people making the right decisions, no stock piling/hoarding, self isolation ASAP where symptoms are noticed

there are other things I am interested in, stock markets, entertainment (football/pubs/restaurants/travel/vacations)

I just got off a conference call with one company I am doing some work for, as you can imagine Covid 19 was the start of the call, world wide company, 18,000 people in multiple regions, they also employ thousands of subcontractors, they had there first confirmed case this week, guy sent home, young and believed to be in no direct threat. Everyone they could identify has also been sent home who were in contact over the last two weeks with him.

Those kinds of numbers give me encouragement in that it is a large diverse set of numbers with low affect to the whole group in numerous locations in terms of percentage of people infected today. I know there is still time but we have gone through quite some time for people to have been infected.

I am amazed at what Lowbank is posting in terms of office and number of people infected, on the surface the office sounds shockingly bad, maybe I am being clouded in that judgement but things like number of people and one fridge should not be acceptable to anyone. Just an observation and only an opinion from very little info so can clearly be a wrong interpretation of things.
Sounds like he works in an office in Bangalore, going off the conditions he describes

Fair enough but I hope that you read my earlier point about that possibility.

"Don't know how that would work. Most of the military are already out of theatre fighting another of America's wars. Even if every single one of them was available, and they worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week, that's one member of the military for about every 400 to 500 citizens."

Yes I did. Not entirely sure, but I trust my source. For the record, he didn’t say shutdown from tomorrow but they were ready from tomorrow.

I'd suggest that if anything like that was to happen, it would likely be London centric, purely to protect government buildings etc.. We just don't have the capacity for more than that.

On a separate point, the BBC is making a headline out of Covid-19 cases topping 200,000. This is very misleading as most pepole will see that and assume there are 200,000 current cases. In fact, at the moment there are about 115,000 known current cases, with over 82,000 fully recovered.

I missed the detail in PMQs but BBC News which was covering it, said that a 'Home test' to see if people have HAD the virus was apparrently very close.

That would be a great help, especially in the NHS, as people who had had it, would be able to return to work without the worry of catching it or passing it on.
Did they actually say this? Can’t see anything about it on their website?

Perhaps if you and your family had been born into the sort of poverty that the people who use those markets generally are, you might have a very different view of what people should eat? Honestly, some of your comments disgust me.

When they report something like 10,000 deaths worldwide why are Britain predicting between 20,000 and 260,000 deaths. Can someone please explain.

Starting to get serious, I urge any fellow clarets if you start feeling ill & you've recently visited the countries mentioned in the link, follow the advice.
This thread has been running a long time now and maybe it's time you thought about changing it's headline? Coronaviruses are a huge group of viruses and the one we are currently suffering from is just one, Covid-19. (Named after the year, not the number of viruses.)

WHO announced “COVID-19” as the name of this new disease on 11 February 2020, following guidelines previously developed with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

Perhaps a change to Covid-19 would help avoid confusion?

Because they've basically given up on trying to contain it. They're trying to slow down the rate at which we all get it, so that the NHS isn't swamped with cases all at once.

1 million critically ill over the course of the year, could be manageable.
1 million critically ill at the same time cannot not be.
(the 1 million ill is a figure pulled out of my rear, but you get the drift)

This is an example of the way the Trump White House is handling this outbreak. They are insisting on calling it Wuhan Coronavirus instead of Covid-19 and continuing to criticise both China and Iran. Strange how both are in their sights, isn't it? I mean, they're not political enemies or anything are they?

Its been stated many times that 60-80% of the population will be infected.

Then if you take a fatality rate of 1% that gives a potential UK death toll of 500,000.

If the fatality rate is 2% its 1,000,000

I believe it’s an inevitability that we’re quickly heading towards a financial *depression* like the last global depression between 1929 – 1939 (or possibly much worse) and not a recession, like in 2008.

The world has changed forever and a global currency might be the only way forward and that currency might not be cash as we know it.

As I said earlier, he should consider himself fortunate that he wasn't born into the poverty that drives those markets. If he had been, he's probably be first in the queue.

You quoted the WHO naming the disease. Which is right.

It just seemed a bit odd to request the topic name be changed on the grounds of a lack of accuracy in a post that also suffered from it. I'd have thought you'd have been interested in accuracy.

That's because their strict lockdown has worked. But experts say once the shackles are off the virus will surge again. The only thing that will stop it is a vaccine although there will be peaks and troughs.

You quoted the WHO naming the disease. Which is right.

It just seemed a bit odd to request the topic name be changed on the grounds of a lack of accuracy in a post that also suffered from it. I'd have thought you'd have been interested in accuracy.
Like I said, nitpicking. Strange how it was only you that picked me up on it don't you think?

Read my post. I missed the detail.
Edit Actually no scratch that, you said the BBC said it. Who on the BBC said these tests were close?

The BBC news team direct from the House of Commons just after 2pm. I can't recall the reporter, OK?

Are you trapped behind the barricades? Is that why you can't give a source?

Sorry, I was quoting WHO. Maybe they are wrong? Really, does it matter? It's what it has become known as. More nitpicking? You just can't help yourself, can you?
Very rich mate, you've been as bad as any on this thread.
