A point worth debating is just how much knowledge of the amount of virus there was in London at the time did he have ? He will have known as data now confirms that London was a hotbed of infection with up to 20% of the population infected he obviously thought sod this and hot tailed it away, others trying this were turned back .
It wouldn't surprise me if motorway camera operators and police patrols were told not to monitor and let him through .

A lot has been said about Dominic Cummings over the past couple of days.
Whatever he's done pales into insignificance compared to a previous communications man in Number 10 Downing Street.
He "sexed up" a dossier and was instrumental in the UK being directly involved in an illegal war.
An illegal war that lead to the needless deaths of 100s of thousands of innocent Iraqi men , women and children .

Leaving aside getting one over the media and left wingers like me who obviously disliked him before this, if I'd had a family member seriously ill or even dying alone because I was following the rules whilst he was off wherever he wanted I really do think I'd be horrified and distraught over this.

Well beaches were closed at that point so he'd have had a job. I think castle's were still accessible though?
I didn't even know about those two flouting lockdown rules. Obviously that was really poor too and I'm sure they were given hell for it, but the main distinction I can make there is that neither of those two were instrumental in putting rules in place.

I'm amazed at the deflection on this thread,whatever others have or haven't done during this lockdown is irrelevant,Cummings clearly has no regard for the government's own guidance so why should the rest of the country.

Cummings’ mum was a special needs teacher so you can certainly see why they wanted the child in her orbit in case they were both incapacitated (luckily his wife recovered quickly). I bet the plan would have been for the sister to take the child if necessary and for the grandmother to advise. If I was in the exact same situation, I’d have done the same, without doubt. Family comes first, no matter what, and there was no evidence anyone else was put at risk.
In my many years following politics, I can’t remember anyone triggering as much hate as Cummings. Just an observation.

It's not political for me i couldn't care if they're blue,green,red,yellow or any other party,it's laughable that an unelected adviser is so feared by even cabinet ministers,that they'll defend his actions however wrong they happen to be.
Why is he so feared that's what i can't get my head round,the warning signs were there in the Javid affair,and this is just becoming more crazy by the day,the government don't even seem to care that they're losing the support of the public and their own backbenchers.

I don't know much about him so did a bit of reading up as a result of this episode. Seems like his strength is in PR and leading campaigns. Also seems like he isn't particularly loyal to any party so maybe they fear they'll lose him to Labour to lead the campaign against them.

Certainly wasn't an ideal situation for Cummings. But neither was having someone in your family die alone because the rules he helped orchestrate said you couldn't visit them. So you might have done the same, but you didn't make the rules.
He does trigger a lot of hate, you're right, from all sides of politics including the civil service by the tonight's evidence. He's either terribly misunderstood or...

The day before the 2017 election, the Sun ran 16 pages eviscerating Jeremy Corbyn - a terrorist sympathiser, unpatriotic, unfit to lead, take your pick. I put it that you have more of a selective memory.
And if you can’t see where the anger stems from when the unelected adviser mainly responsible for the policy whereby people have missed funerals, special occasions, the last moments of loved ones, while wilfully ignoring it himself, then I can’t help you.

For balance, you would leave your child in a household with multiple infected persons for 7-14 days? Where there is no option but for someone infected with Covid to feed and care for your child?
