That's a very valid point. IMO the vast majority of people who have the virus won't actually be recorded officially since if they are following advice they will be self-isolating and will never actually be tested.
Hence the number of recorded deaths can only be a percentage of those actually tested and diagnosed as opposed to those who actually have it.
So when they keep saying "a man in Northampton" (or wherever) has tested positive for Covid 19, what has he done differently to actually undergo a test and get a "result"? If he'd followed the rules he'd have been nowhere near the doctors! But there have been loads of such reports. Or are some people turning up at the doctors and demanding to be tested against advice?

That’s why the virus will continue, people like you unwilling & reluctant to adopt a different lifestyle approach, if you starve anything from oxygen it perishes.
If you want to live under a stone and consider that a victory, the rest of us taking out chances won't stop you or impact your survival. Enjoy!

Unless a number of those who get tested are showing more aggressive symptoms.

As best as I can understand it, if you get "flu" like symptoms you do not go to a doctor or hospital, you call the emergency number, they talk to you in terms of what you have, if your lucky you may have a thermometer and be able to take your or other family members temperature. NOTE to self, buy a thermometer.

Nothing happens after that except you self isolate, but during the conversation there will be other discussions, where do you live, red zone, yes/no box ticked. Have you travelled lately, flown anywhere, when, box ticked. Depending upon the survey outcome someone will come round to test you and then you get results, or it's we think it's flu like, stay in and call us in a couple of days, repeat.

Hence the statements around no one knows how many people have it because testing is very limited, so areas where we compare S Korea, 20,000 tested daily versus UK 1,000 tested daily gives rise to concern and also to statistics being way off.

Just my thoughts and no expert plus what I have been told.

The Chinese have a lot to answer for due to how this disease originated and whether markets like that should operate in modern culture. Reckless in the extreme and this could polish off as many Brits as WW2 (though not as many in prime obviously). The point is, if it happens once it could happen again.
And the British on the other hand just contaminate a whole Scottish island with Anthrax spores and leave it for 48 years before doing anything to clean it up. Good old Brits eh?

It’s short term, not forever, I don’t have a choice thanks to people like you, I’d prefer it if people stopped in for a month we can have all the parties in the world after that, let’s just get this s**t under control.

It may be the last chance for a while so enjoy every one of them while you can.

Still gutted about the footy being behind closed doors though.

No true, but the natural likelihood of less exposure & contact can only mean 1 thing, it’d almost disappear domestically.

If it was a solution that worked, it might be worth considering. But since it fails that first test, it's not.

Brexit because Johnson, Gove, and Cummings are the liars who led the leave campaign. Who mentioned Labour I am thinking of the Italian, Danish, Irish, S Korean governments.

6 weeks minimum.
Apparently it can survive in the nasal passages for 5 weeks.
The thing is that if everyone stayed at home for that sort of period there'd be thousands of deaths by many other causes.

Either way it’s something we’d never find out, it would take preparation & everybody on board, it ain’t happening, it’d have to be government endorsed & a certain date so everybody could stockpile essentials in advance.

Not the full story, of course.

Serology negative for antibodies but.. "the dog continued to test “weakly positive” for the virus in oral and nasal swab samples."

"The [gene] sequence results indicate that the virus likely spread from the infected persons and subsequently infected the dog,” the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said in a statement. Chui said the government’s experts would continue to classify the dog as having a low-level infection, despite the blood test result.

We obviously haven't got complete science but what we have doesn't support this theory, unfortunately (WHO reporting from China last week).
Not being argumentative, but i'm not sure what you mean. Could you please link a source?
The way I see it is:
They claim that children could be carrying it but not showing symptoms. So let's assume that both my grandchildren have it and no one really knows. They've passed it on to me, but my symptoms are quite mild, so self and wife have decided to self-isolate, and we're really not sure whether we have it or not. She then also picks it up and stays in bed for a few days but we never alert the doctor or any authority and we eventually feel normal again.
How can the 4 of us be included in the statistics even though as it turns out we have had the virus?
(The above is purely hypothetical by the way, but entirely plausible and not unrealistic.)

Of course. Much too much unsourced, misquoted or made up info on here - I should have provided the link.

https://globalbiodefense.com/headlines/ ... -response/
(Snippets from the full interview - but Aylward's comments are available elsewhere too)

"In Guangdong, they went back and retested 320,000 samples originally taken for influenza surveillance and other screening. Less than 0.5 percent came up positive, which is about the same number as the 1,500 known Covid cases in the province. There is no evidence that we’re seeing only the tip of a grand iceberg, with nine-tenths of it made up of hidden zombies shedding virus. What we’re seeing is a pyramid: most of it is above-ground. Once we can test antibodies in a bunch of people, maybe I’ll be saying, “Guess what? Those data didn’t tell us the story.” But the data we have now don’t support it." (my highlight)

"“That was really interesting, because we were hoping and maybe expecting to see a large burden of mild and asymptomatic cases,” says Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. “That piece of data suggests that’s not happening, which would imply that the case fatality risk might be more or less as we currently have.” But Guangdong province was not a heavily affected area, so it is not clear whether the same holds in Hubei province, which was the hardest hit, Rivers cautions."
