I went for my hematologist appointment this morning to a virtually empty waiting room. Only to be told I didn't need to come in as they are doing phone appointments. They sent a text apparently which I didn't receive.

Anyway, I still have to go in for a venesection this afternoon as my Hematocrit levels are too high!

No avoiding the hospital! ;)

It’s going to be an interesting thing to watch at work.

You have between 70-80 people working in the same office.

One sink, one water heater with a single handle one fridge.
No hand sanitizer or wipes left.

5 people gone home with Covid symptoms but due to no tests, no one knows if they have it, so it’s carry on as usual.

2 more gone home this morning.

How will you feel about that statement if several of my colleagues pass away?
I’ll feel absolutely fine thanks. For the record, I’m working from home for the foreseeable future, how would you feel if I died as a result of herd immunity taking too long to kick in and a member of my family came into the house with this virus? It’s as pointless an argument as your scenario.

Forget it. It's a waste of time trying to have a sensible conversation with you. You've made your mind up to argue with me at every opportunity, whether I'm right or wrong.

I suppose you are also likely to find fault with my posts over the last two days that reported that the cases in Italy appeared to be peaking? (To make it clear, I didn't say falling.)

Don't bother answering, it was a rhetorical question.

Add in sensitivity and specificity of the PCR testing and then cat and pigeons comes to mind.
There will be false positives and negatives. Not read details of PCR specificity and sensitivity, have you Zlatan?
Not certain testing for antibodies is widely available yet as I think this is what Roche announced in USA on Tuesday or Monday.
Again what do(es) these antibodies mean re past infection and present immunity?
nope, but I have now. It is a minefield isn't it, but my initial question wasn't to be obtuse, but to generate debate around what people mean by testing and to try and understand why there is a problem with the various methods of testing etc. We could waste time testing people and then a week later have to test them again, it is this reason that I support our country's position to not systematically test for every sniffle. I'm sure others will disagree, but that's what I think (right now)

I think that more people would be being tested, if we had enough trained people to check those tests and provide results. The problem is, that we don't.

I missed the detail in PMQs but BBC News which was covering it, said that a 'Home test' to see if people have HAD the virus was apparrently very close.

That would be a great help, especially in the NHS, as people who had had it, would be able to return to work without the worry of catching it or passing it on.

AT THIS TIME:
I really don't care where the virus started
I really don't care what caused it

The above is because I am 100% positive that teams of professional people will be working on the above and will in due time provide definitive details to the best of there knowledge as experts in these fields.

I really care about how it is spreading, where is it reducing, hopefully providing an indication to where the rest of the world goes.
I really care about where are they are on a vaccine and interim testing on existing medicines that could/may prove beneficial in the fight against the virus
I really care about people making the right decisions, no stock piling/hoarding, self isolation ASAP where symptoms are noticed

there are other things I am interested in, stock markets, entertainment (football/pubs/restaurants/travel/vacations)

I just got off a conference call with one company I am doing some work for, as you can imagine Covid 19 was the start of the call, world wide company, 18,000 people in multiple regions, they also employ thousands of subcontractors, they had there first confirmed case this week, guy sent home, young and believed to be in no direct threat. Everyone they could identify has also been sent home who were in contact over the last two weeks with him.

Those kinds of numbers give me encouragement in that it is a large diverse set of numbers with low affect to the whole group in numerous locations in terms of percentage of people infected today. I know there is still time but we have gone through quite some time for people to have been infected.

I am amazed at what Lowbank is posting in terms of office and number of people infected, on the surface the office sounds shockingly bad, maybe I am being clouded in that judgement but things like number of people and one fridge should not be acceptable to anyone. Just an observation and only an opinion from very little info so can clearly be a wrong interpretation of things.

I have just spoken to a subcontractor in the North West.

They have had 6 people go home with symptoms in the last 48 hours.

If only half are real Covid cases from my work and this subcontractor that’s still large amounts at this time.

Re: the where did it come from debate?

Coronaviruses do come from animals, but this one probably did not come directly from a bat. Instead there was an intermediate host which transmitted the virus to a human being. Here is how Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome spread (also a Coronavirus):

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/2/19-0697_article

As you can see, the bat gave it to a camel, which gave it to other camels, one of whom eventually gave it to a human.

The last I heard, the picture is basically the same for COVID-19 except in place of camels, we have Asian palm civets. Apparently they are sold in the kind of wet markets where the virus is believed to have originated.

Don't know how that would work. Most of the military are already out of theatre fighting another of America's wars. Even if every single one of them was available, and they worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week, that's one member of the military for about every 400 to 500 citizens.

My company works worldwide.
Face to face meetings carried on in every country right up to last week.
I requested hand sanitizers on each doorway 5 weeks ago, it was rejected.
It’s all to late now.

The company didn’t take it seriously at all, but to be fair most people at work, on here and my wonderful mother thought I was overreacting.
