Frank. I apologise to you and everyone else for the noise. But if just one person zones out of the dangerous messages given by one poster on here, even if it's only because of the noise, even if they think I'm in the wrong, it will be worth it.
I liken "one" poster to Lord Haw Haw.

So even when I post a 'Factual' message that you now can't dispute, you call it dangerous. That's typical of you. You really are something else.

From the BBCs live update:

Chloroquine: Could it be used in treatment?
It's been around for decades to treat malaria but there has been lots of talk about whether chloroquine can help Covid-19 patients.

President Trump said on Thursday that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved the drug for use in treating the new coronavirus, but that's not true.

It's an approved drug for malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, but that's it.

But there is some hope. Some doctors say it has appeared to help Covid-19 patients, and lab studies show it seems to block the virus.

However, and this is crucial, clinical trials are still under way.

At 12.16 pm the BBCs live update page showed a pic of a supermarket with empty shelves. I can't help thinking that maybe that in itself will create more panic buying, as normally sensible people start to think that there really is no food and attempt to panic buy themselves, creating an even bigger problem.

We've been as good as gold, only getting what we need, but as you say, you see empty shelves and when something is available you might buy more than you actually need, my wife saw toilet rolls today, but didn't get them as we don't need them. I must admit I had the feeling, perhaps you should have got some, everybody else is. It's the wrong attitude, and I hate it, but we might be pushed into it, unless people get a grip and start being sensible, plus stopping scaremongering in the press, social media, uptheclarets, would help.

Yeah it is has a knock-on effect.

People buy more, not because they are the same breed of people who tried to take everything for themselves, but because they think if they don't, those inbred people will be along again and take the rest - therefore taking 1 of 5 will mean the dregs of society will just come along and take the remaining 4.

I'm shopping as local as possible. Cafe, greengrocer, local mini-market.

I'm self isolating as much as possible, but I did go out in the garden this morning to do a bit of tidying up. I also put a note on my door aimed at delivery drivers, telling them I was self isolating and asking them to knock, then step back from the door. To be fair, they will probably do it anyway.

however i will post some positive news.

as a direct consequence of the fall off in pubs and restaurant trade, it has been agreed that those artic drivers and delivery drivers will be utilised into the food chain of great britain for both suppliers and retailers, so as soon as the numptys stop panic buying food will be replenished on shelf.

so hats off to bidfood and brakes to name but two who agreed to step up.

just for info there trade has fallen by over 70% this week

Considering we are only testing ill patients in hospital a rise of 1035 people to me is massive.

We need to really pull together and do the right things to get through this.

Italy is in a worse place than China because the Chinese flooded over to Tuscany’s clothing manufacturers in January from the affected region at about the same time as the Chinese government were covering the whole thing up. Huge numbers of migrants work in that field apparently. Once Italy twigged it was too late to stop this surge. That’s why I expect UK deaths to be far below Italy ones.

The finger pointing about this will come, no doubt about it, but saving life is the current priority.

As Italy has a higher rate of smoking, especially in the younger people I wonder if that's caught up with them in later life?
Are there any other reasons why Italy may end up with a higher mortality rate?

The early cases were in small towns where the whole family lives in one house, from baby to grandma, many families live next to each other, add the fact that Italians hug and kiss each other every time they meet, it's thought that this led to many people catching the virus early then passing it to others and on and on.
That's the view of one Italian scientist, others will think differently no doubt.

In the I newspaper yesterday a German scientist gave the explanation as to why their deaths to confirmed cases are so low and he said it’s because they test a wide range of people from those only showing mild symptoms to those that are very ill. If you have a look on that Worldometer site, Germany has only 83 deaths to around 22000 cases. The positive point about this is that the overall death rate will probably be under 1% of cases. (Yes they have more Intensive Care Beds and Ventilators but we have still not reached capacity) Given we have over 200 deaths there will be around 60000 cases in the U.K. if not more and explains why so many celebrities/footballers are getting diagnosed as they have the “luxury” of jumping the queue using up a valuable test that a nurse could be having.

If we use the German model it may be the case that if the death rate is to be below 1% the restrictions may get lifted sooner as long as the NHS can cope.

We've had almost three times the number of deaths to Germany. Regardless of how many we are testing why are more Brits passing away if we are currently able to provide anyone who needs a ventilator with one?

Unless Germany is able to better follow the South Korean model and make sure they can track asymptomatic cases and make sure more people self isolate.

Edit Germany has a population of 82 million, yet more Brits are dying in ICUs.

Could it be because the UK has more actual cases even though fewer have been confirmed due to limited testing? I can't see any other explanation for the disparity in death rates.

Might be as simple as "they can afford to have the tests done privately". We don't know what the score would be if everyone was tested.

I wonder if footballers might be a guide to the general population? The proportion of footballers who have tested positive divided by the number of rich footballers, averaged over the population as a whole?

No chance of restrictions being lifted quickly with these numpties https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-51988877

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-h ... s-51990534

Are people brain dead in this country or what

Thankfully many people are following the advice to socially distance, but not everyone, and it's the small minority that is the problem.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-51990809

And it's this group that will lead to stricter rules being brought in by the government if deemed necessary.

It's very simple if people heed the advice, and the number of cases, and fatalities falls sharply in the coming weeks, then there's much more chance of restrictions being eased, but if the British public insist on behaving as stupidly as some currently are, then they'll suffer further limits on theirs, and our freedoms.

I really thought that the hard-hitting messages, from both Boris Johnson and Nicola Sturgeon, would have got through to the public,i can't comment directly on Northern Ireland or Wales, but i imagine the tone from their political leaders was the same, and yet for whatever reason this is flying right over people's heads.

SERIOUSLY! people you need to wise up,this virus can be com-batted,but it'll take the efforts of the whole country to limit it's impact, now if that involves small sacrifices for a short period,so be it,surely if it ultimately saves lives, that's what matters.

You're right. There's no excuse for them or for business owners who try and find every trick to avoid the issue. Both my and my other half's employers (one private sector, one public) are guilty of that. Mine has wriggled its way into "key worker" status when it isn't, the other half's is doing everything it can to avoid people working from home.
