I suppose it will have to come in since there seems to be mass standing at most premier league grounds, especially in 'away' ends. Not sure whether this is from clubs just turning a blind eye to it or too many for them to stop and enforce seating, but sooner or later there is going to be a major incident and some people are to get seriously hurt.

I think it is just too many for them to stop and enforce seating and I do agree with you that sooner or later there is going to be a major incident if things don't change.

For those at Wolves and Spurs this season, the advantages of having rails in front of the seating was there for all to see. Even though we were, supposedly, still required to sit, it made it a hell of a lot safer when we were forced to stand.

Standing in seated areas always feels a lot more dangerous than standing on terraces.

This is what I’ve always thought.

Right now we have unsafe standing, so why not add in safe standing sections?

Hopefully then people can actually be given a choice at away games whether they want to sit or stand and make games a more pleasant experience for everyone.

Really? I've never felt like I was taking my life in my hands ever time I went to the toilet at a match. The simple fact is; the establishment thought they needed a rapid response to a perceived widespread problem that didn't actually exist. And as they do not understand or care particularly for football or its fans they made a knee-jerk reaction and banned standing.

It is less safe than standing on terraces. A friend of mine suffered a serious injury at Preston a few years ago and I know some were injured at Old Trafford recently after we scored. I'm not suggesting anything deliberate here but it does only need an accidental push to cause a problem.

Having been to a couple of games this season with rails in front, the benefits are obvious. For me, personally, it allows me to stand in more comfort because I am not standing totally unsupported throughout the game, but, more importantly, it prevents any possibility of people being pushed over onto the row in front of the potential consequences of that.

Add to that, there are supporters who have stopped going to away matches now because they can't stand. That really can't be right and even when they are down near the front, they get abuse if they dare to ask someone on the front row to sit.

Introduction of safe standing - the sooner the better for me.

I have to admit we have not been to an away game this season, we had a bad incident where a group of lads behinds us decided to start pushing each other after we had scored, a couple of lads fell forward and knocked my wife over down between the seats, she's 67, the lads stood up climbed back over and ignored my efforts to pick my wife up, no apology, nothing. The people in front of us helped me, she was badly shaken. I think the safe standing idea will help enormously, it won't solve people being pushed over, but it will help.

But what if someone still wants to sit? The person in front is still stood up obstructing their view.

Groove, it’s simple. There is safe standing areas, then designated seating sections. You choose where you want to watch from.

Sports Minister Nigel Adams has said this week: “As we made clear in our election manifesto, we will work with fans and clubs towards introducing safe standing at football grounds.

“Over a million people watch live football at a ground every week, and having spoken to fans across the country, I know that safe standing is an issue many feel passionately about.

It’s called standing for choice which means just that, standing areas and seating areas. There would be no standing in the seating areas.

The seat should be locked in the up position. That’s how it’s done in Germany. If you have a ticket for a standing area, it will be standing only.

I struggle to stand for long due to piriformis syndrome, so can't face going to away matches any more. Perhaps there could be some way of guaranteeing that some can sit at away matches. And no, I'm not disabled!!

Hopefully if we can get the introduction of safe standing it will bring that choice. It is so wrong that so many people have had to stop going to away games because others think it is a divine right to stand in a seating area.

I’ve spoken to people involved and they thought things were moving quickly and positively with Adams. Now it is someone else to deal with but it shouldn’t change things.
