Man City v West Ham
Called off five hours before the game but Sheffield United v Bournemouth seems to be going ahead.
Can’t think of many postponed top flight games for weather in recent memory.

The weather was the only advantage that the Hammers had. So cruel to take that away from them

Called off due to "extreme and escalating weather conditions" according to a City statement.

I'll need it in this. Padiham is on the verge of becoming a reservoir.

West Ham will be gutted about this..Sterling out ,Citeh not playing well, the high winds a real leveller..They would rather have played them today when they had a decent chance of a result .

Didn’t City have one called off a couple of years ago for high wind? Sure it was a mid week game.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 11:33 amCalled off five hours before the game but Sheffield United v Bournemouth seems to be going ahead.

Massive boost for City, 3 weeks between games just in time to get a big rest before the European campaign recommences. Won’t have been lost on them.

Rare that a Premier League game is called off but seems a more than sensible decision given these weather conditions.

Ironically the wind has completely died down this last hour or so over here in Manchester.

Should have gone ahead imo. Wind has died down. Don’t normally feel for West Ham fans but I certainly do at present. You don’t normally see American Football matches being postponed no matter how bad the weather.

Yep, seems they may have been a tad premature in calling it off.
But I suppose they have to give travelling fans enough warning.

It’s not just what it’s like now though. People have to travel and they will always check the forecast which was not for it to have died down so early.

Re: Man City v West Ham
Just been past Bramall Lane and the conditions were atrocious (though then eased a bit).
Ultimately it suits City for this to be off, 2 weeks before the Bernabeu, but didn’t suit the Blades, so I’m not surprised. Delighted the Blades got their win and kept AFCB deep in the mire, beat them at the Turf now and they will struggle to catch us.

Re: Man City v West Ham
The storm front was moving south-eastwards so travelling would not have been good for Hammers fans this evening.
Lots of flooding and both trees and infrastructure damage reported which could have affected home and away fans ability to reach the Etihad or get home safely afterwards in the dark.

Re: Man City v West Ham
Once upon a time a match was only called off if the pitch was unfit but now so many things have to be taken into consideration and the decision for this game was taken by the safety officer, as it was at Burnley back in 2004 when we had a game called off because of high winds.

What's left of the stand at Wisbech.
Re: Man City v West Ham
I'm sure Blackpool regularly used to have games called off when it was too windy.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 5:37 pmOnce upon a time a match was only called off if the pitch was unfit but now so many things have to be taken into consideration and the decision for this game was taken by the safety officer, as it was at Burnley back in 2004 when we had a game called off because of high winds.

Re: Man City v West Ham
I was sort of referring to my early days watching football and I doubt that would have ever happened. They did have problems though with the Gene Kelly stand a few years ago. Still don’t know how our game there was played in 2009.
Re: Man City v West Ham
citeh played through Storm Brian at home to us. They arent as good a team now so hence gets called off!
Re: Man City v West Ham
Not quite so far back but I have memories of Blackpool games (not necessarily against us) being called off if the wind got over 50mph in the 80s and 90s.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 12:43 pmI was sort of referring to my early days watching football and I doubt that would have ever happened. Re: Man City v West Ham
There was some rule where the game had to be called off if the winds reached a set speed. All down to the state of the ground. They even had to reduce the height of floodlight pylons.

Perfect time for us to play City. After ManU, before RM & Chelsea.
I fancy us this year.
