After being reconfigured to an all seater stadium, it's current capacity is said to be 78,738 ....

Yeah it has been made all seater now. A game a few years ago featuring one of the clubs (Vasco Da Gama I think) saw one of the top tiers collapse and 3 people died, which brought in health and safety and of course it had to be all-seater for the world cup recently as well. Don't think we'll ever see the like again.

My grandad went on a works trip to the Scotland v England game at hampden when the crowd was a world record then.can’t imagine what it was like being an Englishman in that crowd.

24th March 1992, I was there ! Finished 0-0 ... the gate was announced as 4,881, even the Police burst out laughing !

Yes 'big crowd' for them but very unreal.

The police sending their horse down that lane, at the end caused havoc! I am sure I still have bramble and nettle souvenirs!

Just wondering what the attendances were for a couple of home games; Blackpool in 1991 when they apparently brought 20,000 and then Blackburn in 1982 where by half past one the ground was full of their fans. Still don't know how I managed to get in to both of them.

Blackpool in Apr.'91 at home was 18,395, the next highest in that season at home was 10,410 against Doncaster. That season we finished 6th in Division Four.

Blackburn in Dec.'82 at home was 20,439, the next highest in that season at home was 14,069 against Newcastle. That season we were relegated from Division Two.

The Rovers game I believe he’s referring to is the one on Boxing Day 78 where the away end was packed by 2pm, and they had small pockets of fans in the Bee Hole End near to the Bob Lord. Some people say 6-7,000 or so. Their fans have become Jackanory and then doubled it, so they now think they had 15,000 there.

Thanks for the correction on the date. 1977, was that the game where they led 3-0 at h/t, missed a pen. at beginning of second half and we managed to pull it back to 2-3?

FA cup quarter final v Newcastle at Hillsborough. Brother and I got tickets for wrong end. Bit uncomfortable as both wearing blazers with Lancashire rose on top pocket.

I too was in the wrong end at Hillsborough hiding my scarf, strange as we had bought our tickets from thre Turf, it was the FA Cup semi final not quarter final.
