not sure, but seem to remember one at the turf on a tuesday when there appeared to be just one away fan in the cricket field
Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
I think it was 1973/4 during the 3 day week. We had a midweek match at Chelsea played in the afternoon. I think there were about 10 people in attendance

Chesterfield away in what became the Sherpa Van in 1986. Attendance just over 1k, around 80 Clarets in attendance.

Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
That was our lowest attendance - I sponsored the match ball that night and it was chaos. Photographer didn’t turn up because he was owed money, they’d no seats for us, there was nowhere to go after the match but we were allowed in what’s now the Harry Potts Lounge. Director Bernard Rothwell came in and tried to have us thrown out for no reason other than he didn’t know who we were.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 8:22 pmMine .Colchester at home midweek a 2 -1 win in front of around 1200

I’d three guests with me that night and it was embarrassing and rescued only by Joe Gallagher, Leighton James & Billy Rodaway.

Pretty poor turnout that wet, windy night in Merton for the Full Members Trophy.
Wimbledon stuffed us 5-0 and I didn't know any of our players. If the gate says over 1k, they're making it up.

Are we talking about just Burnley?
I played in a game during the Walking Football Cup in the Algarve last October where we had exactly no spectators until the 43 penalty penalty shoot out win over Toronto's Hamilton over 60s. Treatment for injuries meant that only the requisite 5 players from each team plus the referee were present until all the other games had finished.

Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
Withdean v someone equally awful.
Attendance about 12. That was when the team played at a falling down athletics track before it was flattened and greatly improved for Brighton to play there. Withdean had an average gate of about 14. Pathetic for county league 2.
I suspect I've been to games with lesser crowds but at east sussex league level, you can't really tell who is an official as they are all muddled up with the subs.
I seem to remember a game at Hooe or Ninfield or somewhere where there were about 4 people watching. I think it must have been in the Hastings senior Cup. We sent our seconds. I can't remember there being a changing room.

Current Premier League stadiums, I played in a "punter pays" charity game at Stamford Bridge in May-2010. TV cameras were there. There were more players in the two teams than there were spectators - and I was seen in the bit they picked out for BBC News at 6 that evening. Further report was then pulled from the 10pm news - when I was all ready to record. Gordon Brown resigned as PM around 8pm that evening.

Whenever I hear an "expert" eulogising about those wonderful Chelsea fans I remember being at Stamford bridge in 78? Division 2 in a crowd of just over 8000. Chelsea's lowest league gate. Burnley lost 2-0 in a match fitting the occasion to be honest.
Anyone else there? Probably not!

Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
One I remember is a Freight Rover game V Bolton, but for a reasonable Bolton following reckon it would have touched lowest home crowd number. Still got the one page team sheet.
Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
Burnley v Endsleigh Insurance in Cheltenham. There were about 20 Clarets watching. Sometime in the late 80s. I think we had played away the day before , Plymouth maybe.

Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
It poured down and as someone rightly said earlier, away fans were housed undercover down the side. stevie2112 will be able to quote the attendance and number of Clarets there - it was more than 20, I am guessing around the 80 mark.RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 3:38 amI was there, wasn’t it snowing that night? stevie2112 featured in one of the best comeback lines I have heard at a game. He was clad in a sheepskin jacket, full on John Motson affair. Chesterfield fan shouts he's got a sheep on his back. Better a sheep on my back than on the end of your Dad's cock mate

Used to occasionally go to watch Haslingden in the old West lancs league. Average gate about 25 (on a good day). They haven't existed for donkey's years but the last time I past the old Ewood Bridge ground the old stand was still there in the midst of a field of what looked like pampas grass.

Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
Chelsea used to get some really poor crowds until the money and the trophy hunters turned up. It was a dreadful ground too. Been there a couple of times late 60s and early 70s, one was the FA cup tie that we drew and someone posted on the 'biggest attendance' thread about the replay at the Turf. I could be wrong but I think we had more on for the replay than they did for the first game. Once stood on the old open end at the Bridge and the pitch felt like it was somewhere over in the other side of London. Terrible ground.Petersa wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 8:27 amWhenever I hear an "expert" eulogising about those wonderful Chelsea fans I remember being at Stamford bridge in 78? Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
One thing I remember about the game in 78 at Chelsea was going past some barriers with loads of boot laces tied to them. It was at the height of the bovver boot era and the plods used to make them take the laces out so they couldn't give anyone a kicking.houseboy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:07 pmChelsea used to get some really poor crowds until the money and the trophy hunters turned up. Was also at the 70 cup replay on the Turf. 38000 on if I remember, gates closed I don't think I was so crammed in anywhere in my life....only a three sided ground then and yup we lost that as well. In the middle of my O level mocks....Mum wasn't happy extra time didn't help either

4 Feb 1986. Division 4. Torquay Utd 2 Burnley 0. Gate 1335 As far as I can see this is the lowest crowd to have watched a Burnley league game since WW1. It was an absolutely dire match on a freezing night. All I can really remember is that we were lucky to get 0 and that it was so foggy that you couldn’t really see the other end. I think Mark Loram was the only player on the pitch who looked anything other than a pub footballer.

Cheers for that bud. It didn't look that full because to be fair even though it was awful it was quite big. Huge amounts of terracing as I recall. So around about 80k watched those two games. That was when the FA Cup actually meant something.ralphdpomeroy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:54 pmThe attendance at the 2-2 FA Cup draw at Stamford Bridge was 42,282.

Just checked and the lowest I've seen for a Burnley league game was at Torquay in 1986 - a massive 1,335 there and that was the day I completed my 92 grounds.
Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
Arbroath v Montrose in a junior cup match 95 brave souls, match abandoned ball wouldn't stay still on penalty spot but I think it was because they had lost 3 balls to the sea.

Re: What games have you watched with lowest attendance
I remember a home game against Torquay, it would have been 4th division 89/90, on a grim Tuesday night. When the 15 or so Torquay fans that had turned up in town asked for drinking advice, some joker directed them to the Prinny Royal. I rescued them outside and took them up to the Park View. The club moved them from the Longside away section into the Bob Lord, read out all their names at half time, and gave them free hot drinks.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 5:02 pmJust checked and the lowest I've seen for a Burnley league game was at Torquay in 1986 - a massive 1,335 there and that was the day I completed my 92 grounds.
