Glennon and Benson

Been watching the Colchester v Grimsby game tonight, Anthony Glennon has been outstanding and looks a cut above that level. Can definitely see him challenging Pieters next season for reserve LB.

Benson has also played well, busy and a keenness to move the ball on quickly.

Holloway seems to be doing a good job!

We can do a lot worse than have Holloway nuturing any of our players.

Glennon has been getting some outstanding reports from the press over there since he signed. Benson also doing well for them.

I watched the last 10 minutes where Grimsby were under the cosh.
Benson was very good on the ball in midfield and Glennon was getting rave reports off the commentators.

Now Phillips is the one intriguing me. I'd never even heard of him, but he's gone out to Morcambe is receiving many plaudits and registering a few goals and assists.

Seems like we have a very decent crop of youngsters at the moment

Just been on the Grimsby fishy forum, and they’re delighted with both of them, especially Glennon. Hopefully this is a early sign of the quality coming through the academy ready to follow in Dwight’s footsteps.

Phillips is ex-Liverpool and signed last summer from Norwich.

Phillips played well again tonight at a very windy Morecambe vs Macclesfield. He has a good brain in him.
Cooney had a cracking game as a marauding right back, again.
They are two of the reasons Morecambe are now playing proper football.

You're correct of course. I've absolutely no idea what prompted me to write such tosh. A career with The Sun beckons I feel. (At least he was in the team!! :D )

Glennon is playing on the left hand side of three central defenders for Grimsby (he's also played centre of defence in a back four for our under-23s) but moved to left back last night when Holloway switched to a back four.

Their local press on the two last night

Anthony GLENNON: The young loanee is going places. Seems to glide across the pitch, and seamlessly slotted back in at left-back after Garmston’s substitution.

Josh BENSON: Kept things ticking over midfield, and worked well alongside his fellow Burnley loanee Glennon.

Saw Morecambe on Saturday in what was a pretty dire game for 85 minutes.Phillips disappointed a little. He had some good touches in the 18 yard box and made some great runs without being found by any of his team mates but he looked a little lightweight and was easily knocked off the ball. Cooney seems more appreciated by the locals and made some great runs with the ball from right back. On that showing can’t see either making the step up to the Prem but still good to see our u-23s getting game time and Cooney for sure will have a good league career ahead of him.

Cooney is still only 19, 20 later this month, while Phillips was 22 in January. Cooney already had quite a bit of League Two experience also with Bury before he joined us in the summer.

Glennon went off injured yesterday, apparently could be the end of his season.

At 22 it would seem like decision time for Phillips. Important few weeks ahead for him and wish him all the best.
