Going off his Twitter page he seems to spend most of his time up there. Think it's safe to say he'll be off this summer. If we can get 10 million and get him off the wage bill would be a result.

Shocking.

Sounds like he spat his dummy out when the Watford move fell through and has been training poorly.

Best shut of people that are going to be unprofessional.

I can understand vydra being annoyed because there has been times he should have played and hasn't, but Gibson must understand its been freakish that Mee or Tarks haven't been injured or suspended, or he himself was injured when there might have been an opportunity. This won't help him find another club, Middlesbrough Carnt afford him, and others might be put off if he's seen as a bad apple, unless Watford come back

Have we ever had a player under contract train with another club like this? Presume this means that Long is next in line should Mee or Tarkowski be injured or suspended

Why not bloody sell him then? Is there still an option to loan him to Boro for a % of his wages?

Not really. Happens all the time in football. Many transfers don't work out for whatever reason.

All things considered he must be our worst ever signing.

So much for the due diligence and personality matching that we bang on about in terms of our transfers.

He must be in a bad place to be upset at being on our bench. Training with them but won't play either so what's happening? Someone's obviously upset somewhere.

I really thought we'd made a good signing with Gibson. I know it is difficult when you only come in for the occasional game but he's not looked good in the games he has played and can have no complaints about not playing. The only time he might have had was in the first half of last season when he was injured and therefore unable to play.

Don't know what's happened but if he is training with Middlesbrough then we will have agreed to it which means we want him out of the way for whatever reason. It's been obvious for some time that all was not well. He's been fit for a while and hasn't been considered for the bench, the last time he was asked, Dyche said he hadn't had enough training.

No suggestion there was anything wrong there. Clearly there has been an incident which has sparked this. It can happen at any time. Seems he then thought he might be on the move to Watford, that didn't happen and I suspect they've decided this is the best option. He's clearly not going to be playing for us again I wouldn't have thought.

It's fine that a signing doesn't work out, that's the nature of the beast, but we hark on about the so called "realities" of it being difficult to buy players because of the "market" and needing to fit into our "framework" so when it comes to spending 15+ million on Gibson to then just, I assume, let him go (or for very cheap) it leaves a sour taste. Why not just unfurl the stringent requirements a bit and buy someone who may not necessarily "buy" into whatever cult-esque rhetoric is sold by Dyche and just get someone for the sake of what they are, a footballer who will play. Then again, it's no wonder we struggle with signings if we're spaffing our load on players who run off crying to their other clubs when they don't play.

Maybe he just isn't smart enough to step up a level. He was very good at Championship standard and maybe thinks he is a Premier League player but the people involved day to day disagree.

He certainly hasn't looked like Keane, Tarkowski or Mee when he has been fit enough to play.

Any deal seeing him off the books has to be right for the Club. Players hold all the cards when you want to sign one, no reason why it shouldn't work both ways!

Doesn't matter how difficult the market is, there will always be signings that don't work out. We haven't let him go, he's still under contract to us, but I suspect he'll be gone in the summer should an acceptable offer come in. I'm sure we could have let him go to Watford had we been prepared to accept a low fee.

Why on earth does it leave a sour taste?

Hasn't taken his chance when he has played.

Often injured.

Seems like a walking yellow card waiting to happen.

Doesn't seem to have the physicality to play in the premier league.

It's not a criticism per-se, and as I suggested, some buys don't work out. It's just how we're sold the line of the market. We do X, Y and even Z in terms of bringing in players, that's why "it's difficult". Not only do we shop in a specific market but we're limited to one or two stalls due to what we are told is for "personality" or "mixing well with the group" reasons.

For this to happen, something has gone badly wrong. It's not just a footballer frustrated with no playing, it seems like a downing tools and spitting their dummy out situation. Surely this was seen coming?

Wasn't really a good fit from the start, signing a player for that money and given the standard he is/was...he would expect to start games. If we knew Ben was staying, we clearly wouldn't have paid out 16 million on a back up CH, certainly not of his standard..so without knowing the ins and outs, it could have been that he was signed on a promise that the shirt was his, as Ben was refusing to sign a new deal.

I don't think for a minute he is a bad egg, things not gone his way...and a way out with Watford didn't materialise...so best the negativity surrounding him right now is best played out away from the squad.

Record signing and all.

From an accounts perspective anything over £8m for him in the summer would see us post a profit on the sale (it would have been £10m last month) assuming a £16m fee was actually paid

And I'd actually forgotten that Gibson was our record signing

If we're happy to keep paying him £40k a week just to have a kickabout with his mates in Middlesbrough, maybe we should have just taken that low fee from Watford and cut our losses.

Because Dyche bought this lad in with a good pedigree and he was a very good player being marked up for the England squad - we sign him for a club record fee and i know he has a had a couple of injuries but never even got a look in when other players were out of form or had bad games.
Yet the very manager who signed him then pleads poverty every window having digs at the club for lack of money.

You dont spend that kind of money on a third choice centre half - we had Long (who i dont rate) but you go and get the next up and coming youngster who has played some league football and will come to Burnley to continue the education.

A club like ours cannot even in the premier league be paying out £15 million and £11 million plus wages on players that we are not going to play - that money together could have got us a top class midfielder or winger or striker as that is what we have been crying out for these last 2 seasons.

Not a surprise you haven’t taken this news particularly well! What the maximum we should be spending on our third choice centre half for future reference?

He hasn't done himself any favours, remember he got sent off in one of his two european starts, and hasn't exactly stood out in the odd cup game.
But I do feel that a little more squad rotation may help our regular bench warmers, it's something we just don't do.

Really? We needed a central defender. We thought we’d got Alfie Mawson until Fulham showed him the money and we went for Gibson who looked at the time to be a very good signing even if things haven’t worked out.
