Puts Vydra in a very good light.

Perhaps Siberia for Gibson.

Totally bizarre situation.

I've been wanting to see him get a proper run because he was excellent for Middlesbrough, but let's be honest here his attitude must really stink. What a thoroughly expensive debacle he's turned out to be.

Perhaps if Vydra had rocked the boat a bit he'd have got his move by now and would still have a chance of getting in the national squad this summer? Getting his head down hasn't done him any favours has it?

No but it demonstrates a much healthier character. (Vydra)

Just not good enough for us in the end, and threw a wobbler when we didn’t sell him for less than we wanted.

Oh well, he won’t be missed.

Not sure how anyone can say he wasn't good enough
He's never had a chance. By that I mean a good few games on the trot. Bought when Mee was dallying over a new contract he's been unlucky and ought to have been sold or played.

Best part of 30m for Gibson and Vydra. Staggering.

Maybe why Garlick is reluctant to loosen purse strings. We can’t afford to make these kind of mistakes too often.

Strange situation if we are paying him. Wonder how much we can realistically get for him in Summer.

Presently it is about £26 million plus wages for the two as well as £5million for Wells plus wages. Not money well spent for a club getting about 120million a season presently.

My understanding from footballers I’ve spoken to is that if you put a transfer request in, you lose your signing on fee? Pretty sure that’s what I was told, hence they never do. Unless a big club comes a long and they know they will be payed it back

Can’t see how we couldn’t be paying him unless gross misconduct. In which case we would fire him.

They might have been able to fine him a fortnight's wages for the initial failure to turn up, if that's what it was; but now that the club has given permission, he'll presumably be back on full pay.

I suppose the idea is that we can't keep him happy, but we might be able to keep him in a good enough state of mind that he will come back and play for Burnley if needed in the rest of the season if we're stuck. After all, he would want to do well to put himself in the shop window.

And then, sold to the highest bidder in summer.

Hmmmm
Are we keeping things too protected, caught out this time and Stone before that. Nothing about the state of Gawthorpe after the storm for example.

Sad Gibson has not worked out, think there is a good player there. It probably has happened before to a lesser degree with the loyalty the management have to the ones wearing the shirt.

Presumably in respect of "gone home and won't train with the squad".

I could respect a man who says "I am not happy, I won't play and you need to stop paying me". I don't know if Gibson has said that.

Yep it’s been a costly mistake and so has Vydra but every club makes them and most clubs make a lot more than us.

We can’t afford to make many mistakes like this but just to point out the fact that we have continued to post profits and I expect this years to be as a very minimum break even (but probably more realistically a small profit) together with the fact that we are still in the Premier League proves that we have been able to afford to make these mistakes.

It’s virtually impossible to not make expensive mistakes in this day and age and it’s more about minimising these and hoping that you have more successful transfers too - and luckily we have.

We have not had to go into any debt to cover these mistakes either or cap in hand to owners or directors.

Every cloud and all that !

Quite an unusual situation is this. I can't think of an exactly similar scenario involving any other player.

If he downs tools then he gets fined and then demoted out of the first team pool if the situation doesn't improve.

With him actually leaving to go to Middlesbrough I would have thought that he would have to forfeit his salary for the period of time that he is there, otherwise he would be on " garden leave" to keep his salary whilst the situation is resolved.

It's like a Masonic lodge at Burnley. Ok fans shouldn't be privy to everything going on .... But theres Need to be some Honesty and clarity regarding certain situations. regards. Vydra drinkwater wells and Gibson...its been silent. They seem to have Gagging orders placed on them. It's an unhealthy scenario.

It depends on what they have agreed. If the player throws a strop and refuses to train, then the club can refuse to pay. But if the player throws a strop and says he will turn up but will sulk and be disruptive, it would be very hard for the club to refuse to pay him.

But I think in this case the club has decided that barring emergencies, the player won't be needed again this season and will certainly be sold in summer and it is better for all concerned to let things lie. He may be back later on when things have cooled down; he may be available in case of injury; we may never see him again. Who knows. But if you can't achieve "amicable", sometimes "tolerable" is better for all concerned that "hateful".

What’s unhealthy.....there was enough reported about Drinkwater’s misdemeanour and when he played he was very poor against City and then left....nothing to say. Wells was loaned out and then sold for around what we paid..nothing to say. Gibson has not been able to get into the defence with the joint most clean sheets in the prem...nothing to say. Vydra has got a few minutes here and there, did well at Brighton but has been very ineffective elsewhere...nothing to say.

So in summary there is nothing for the club to say....

Just think how long his teammates would allow him to turn up with a stroppy & disruptive attitude. Cast your mind back to when you played for a team at any level.
He would soon be sorted out with his teammates.
For him to go to Middlesbrough I can't think of any scenario where we would pay him to do that.

On 5Live it was suggested that he (a really great lad, or words to that effect) was offered training with the U23s. This, of course, could be total bullcrap.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. He was a good signing, made for sound reasoning at the time. Apart from him demonstrating he is not the kind of player we want around, and us getting him away from the club.... huge credit to Burnley for that. If that is the kind of character making a living at CH God help the softens playing up front.

We’ll probably never know as we are not party to what they offered.
If it was a very low offer then they would have been criticised for taking a lower offer and for selling to one of our relegation rivals.
When a player takes this kind of stance it’s very hard for the club and the best it can do is act in a way it thinks is best for the football club and not what’s necessarily best for the player throwing a tantrum. He has signed a contract with Burnley and he should honour it just like we honour it buy paying him.

Squad players are the equivalent of breakdown cover for your car. Costs a fortune and you hope they are good if you need them whilst keeping your fingers crossed they are never required.

People moan when BFC do not buy players they perceive as good enough to go into the 1st XI. When we do and they don't get to play because the players currently in their position is doing a good job then they become a 'waste of money'. Those people seem to want change for changes sake whether it benefits the Club or not.

It's nice when Stoke, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Martin O'Neill amongst others are willing to break news for us, keeps us in the loop I suppose.

Regards Gibson, anyone who thinks it's not been good use of roughly 22m isnt looking at the bigger picture.

If Ben Mee had lost both legs, Gibson might have got some minutes.
Got to cover all bases

The club really cant win with some

Got to factor in wages, loss of form, confidence and clubs knowing the situation whether or not it was better selling Gibson in the "premium window where its inflated fees to sign players" or the historically much easier summer one.

Although that might have now changed to suit this situation so questions dont get asked

Maybe why Garlick is reluctant to loosen purse strings. We can’t afford to make these kind of mistakes too often.
Mr Dyche doesnt make mistakes, it's all part of his master plan.

People thought Wells were a mistake, and luck how that panned out.

We arent having the best years we are ever likely to have because the club is making mistakes.

You are on one this morning Macca !!

Everyone (including SD) knows that Dyche makes mistakes - who doesn’t ?
Gibson turned out to be a mistake - which is even harder to prevent / predict.
Maybe SD / Garlick are aware of mistakes they made when buying Gibson, Vydra, Walters etc in terms of their research on the player or rationale for buying these players being different to some of their other purchases ?
Or maybe they acted in exactly the same way as they did with all the transfers that have turned out well and this is just the way it is with Gibson etc ?

Football with or without the kind of money we have had recently is just one succession of mistakes for all clubs - you just try and make less than other clubs and hope the good stuff you do outweighs the mistakes !!

It's just one of the consequences of the way Dyche does things. We rely on a small group of 13 or 14 players who he really trusts, which means our backup players have to be the likes of Bardsley and Kevin Long who don't expect to play.

Think it is called trying to hard rather than being on one

I agree a great time to be a fan but look at the amount of money being wasted and what would happen if we were a league below and also now pleading poverty.

Recruitment has been very poor for a couple of years and no one on here should be saying anything different but of course they will.
