Just wondering how many tickets we got for this match. My brother, 7 years older than me was a regular at home games and got.to as many away games as he could. He was at Lincoln, missed out for Swansea but would have certainly been at Bradford had he been able to get a ticket.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:52 amGame called off for snow but tragic news close to Turf Moor sixty years ago

Interesting line up in the reserves with a few of them playing European football just a few months later.

I think only Walter Joyce (4 games) and Gordon Harris (1 game) played in the European Cup games but when you look at that reserve team all eleven played in the first team at one time or other.
It's the murder that gets me - I lived on the next street. I'm certain that my mum & dad would have kept it from me. Today, with social media, it would be the kids telling their parents. There is no one I can go and ask now about it either.

Interesting local history, harsh sentence for kids' stealing - 28 days locked up in a remand home but did this sentence work?

Thought Tommy Cummings might have played.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 11:39 amI think only Walter Joyce (4 games) and Gordon Harris (1 game) played in the European Cup games but when you look at that reserve team all eleven played in the first team at one time or other.

It's right what you say about being 'kept in the dark' back in those times. Rossendale was no different to anywhere else but I was able to live my life as a youngster blissfully happy; well, at least until I was 10.

Some real variations in sentencing but the younger you were the harsher the punishment seemed to be. I'm not sure whether it worked out not though.

Tommy never got a game in Europe, we went with Jimmy Adamson at centre half with Walter Joyce at right half.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 1:44 pmThought Tommy Cummings might have played.

Interestingly, Tommy played right back in the reserve game. That's where he'd played in the first team years earlier and was, apparently, very quick. By the time I saw him play he'd just about settled in at centre half.
Life for kids was very much easier back then if you behaved yourself.

Bit of a strange one that Tommy never got an opportunity in Europe. He played in 25 of the 42 league games that season and the fact that our four games were spread over the period of Nov.'60 to Mar.'61 seems odd that he never got the chance.
In terms of that Reserve side both John Talbut and Andy Lochhead both had a part to play in our European Fairs Cup campaign in 1966/67.

Started the championship season at left back but lost his place once Alex Elder had got in. He got back into the side for the run in when Seith was left out but we went with Walter Joyce initially in the following season although Tommy did, as you say, play 25 league games and he was a regular again in 1961/62 which proved to be his last season as a first team player. Not bad for a player who had made his Burnley league debut in 1948. Way past his best when I saw him but my dad always rated him both at full back and centre half.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 2:36 pmBit of a strange one that Tommy never got an opportunity in Europe. I hope no-one thinks it macabre but I found Sophie Therese Walsh on a website called Black Kalender.
She had previously been charged with the attempted murder of two other children and was declared unfit to plead at her trial. She was aged 28 at the time.
What on earth would have happened to her, she would have been 88 today and could even still be alive. All very sobering

Christ, don't say that, this board's pitchfork mob will be besides themselves with excitement.
