Heading out there tomorrow, sorry Ringo, to one of the areas Le Lac which lies just below Val Claret funnily enough - is she a relative of Dave Burnley, I wonder ?

Has anybody been skiing there and, if so, where's best to start out first thing Sunday morning and, equally as crucial, where's best to have a few beers tomorrow night ?

Nice head gear. I expect you won’t be on the nursery slopes wearing that . Not been to this one but looks a good resort so would be interested to see a review once you’ve been.

Something I never do, fortunately. We've been with several groups that insist on skiing for an hour, maybe two top whack and then in for food and drinks.
Another couple of hours, at most, in the afternoon and that's their lot.
If conditions are anywhere near reasonable for skiing, I just want to be out there - plenty of time for boozing later.

Having said that, we usually go to St. Anton, about thirty of us - but not this year - and have one big, late afternoon/evening session in the Mooserwirt, a huge bar with, apparently, the largest beer sales for its sq. meter size in Europe. We usually poll out about eightish to face a gentle quarter mile run down in the dark to the coach in the town.
You'd think that after quite a few years' skiing, in spite of a shedload of ale, the action of pushing off, turning, balancing and so on would be automatic. It's not. You're usually over in a matter of metres but, as the song goes, you get up again, and slowly wend your way, somehow, down.
Great fun, safe enough but bloody grim the morning after.

It’s a British bar with reasonable prices and big screens for sports

It’s at the bottom of a short black or you can ski into the main hub and walk for a couple of minutes

They do live music as well

Regarding skiing, it can get bleak in dodgy weather so pack layers etc on bad days

Easy to ski down into Val d’Isere as well

Thanks for that, longsider, I've just a good look on line and that bar has been mentioned. The best runs seem to be Grand Pre, Grattulu, Double M and the long black into Val d. Oh and some unpisted black called Golf - which I think I'll avoid !

I forget the names of runs. I just do whatever is in front of me.

Sounds good. We've got all week so should cover some ground.

I’m sitting in a hospital in Austria with pneumonia! Arrived last Saturday and within an hour I was ill. Done zero skiing !

Ah, I looked long and hard at St Johann with Crystal, decided to have a punt on Madonna di Campiglio, missed out on that and ended up with a reasonable deal - bearing in mind it's half-term everywhere - in Tignes.
Like you, though, I'm not fussed so long as conditions are OK and there's plenty of skiing.
Hope you're OK - how long have they given you ? Before you leave hospital, I mean !

Lol. I leave tomorrow but off work for at least 4 weeks. We only booked 7 days before. Chose St Johann because you can buy an area pass that gives you access to SkiWelt. Ski circus, Kitzbuhel etc with trains and buses included. My mate loves it but said it would be good to have a car next time. And prices are half that of Tignes!

Oh yeah I get a nurse thrown in with the return flight. I’m just hoping it’s not a big hairy bloke.

I feel for you getting sick and missing your skiing, Original. I was out in Austria, Gastein Valley/Ski Amade 2 years ago. Started feeling unwell as I disembarked the flight out. Spent 5 days confined to bed - but got two, cautious and unsteady, skiing days in at the end of the week. I'm heading out there again in March - with all the wipes and such to keep the covid-19 and all other bugs well away from me.

Everywhere's half price outside half-term. Three weeks ago you could get seven days HB in Niederau - which is a low resort admittedly but the snow's there - for under £400.
Last time I saw it on the Crystal website they were asking just over a thousand. I think they've sold out there and almost everywhere else by the look of it. I guess Thomas Cook going down the pan helped them.

We got St Johann for £420 half board. A few weeks ago St Anton was about the same price!

Excellent. Almost worth getting ill for.

Never been to Tignes, always Chamonix (only 40 mins transfer!)

Recently just went to Sölden in Austria - absolutely brilliant!

To anyone that hasn't been skiing I can't recommend it enough - enjoy your trip

Wow, that's a fair spell - hope you're on the mend..
Tignes is excellent, a large area to cover from Tignes 1500 to Val d'Isère.
Condition brilliant with only one day not really skiable. Some did but the visibility was abysmal.
It looks like two sunny ones to finish off with.
