Man City banned from Europe?
An alert has just come up on my phone about Man City being banned from Europe for the next two seasons. Don’t know if it’s correct or not, can’t find any info.

Re: Man City banned from Europe?
Sky News saying they are banned from Europe for breach of financial rules for 20/21 and 21/22 seasons
Re: Man City banned from Europe
Does this mean that 5th place will attract a Champions League place this season? Guess it will.

Re: Man City banned from Europe?
Manchester City have been banned from European competition for the next two seasons after being found to have committed "serious breaches" of Uefa's club licensing and financial fair play regulations.
They’ve also been fined £25m but that’s meaningless to them.
Now will Pep stay.

Good.
Can we get them relegated to league 2 as well?
It’s just a billionaire’s train set really.

Re: Man City banned from Europe?
For any readers of the Magic Money Tree thread this will come as absolutely no surprise. An almost inevitable outcome for a Club that considered themselves untouchable and outside of the rules. Subject to appeal, of course.

They’ll appeal it and have it suspended no doubt.

Let's get that 8th spot now.
It would be funny if they win the competition this year but aren't allowed to defend it.

Re: Man City banned from Europe
You would hope the team they play in the final qualify for next season's competition - although they'll no doubt have finished high enough in their league anyway, so I don't imagine it will make any difference.

Whoever gets that last spot, could send the clubs finances through the roof.... anyone with half a chance should be desperate to get up there. What a major incentive to kick on and go for all possible points.
City will look a lot less appealing too... that is quite a heavy price, bet they are sick.

Delightful news.
Will chequebook Pep still be able to attract sufficient players to keep them competitive, without CL football?

I’m glad about this. Hope City loose their appeal. It’s about time these clubs distorting competitions by throwing money around are curtailed. Would love to see the premier league have a points deduction for teams who spend more than they make but it won’t happen.

The thought of having to replace the wooden seats with plastic ones will have Mike Garlick saying to SD "Let's not be too hasty in trying to get the fifth spot"!

Wonder if Wolves will be investigated for their transfer dealings?

Like this matters. All that is important is the premier league. Nobody cares about Europe or cups.

Nows the time to prove his worth. Try and recover the premier league next season. Win Europe this season. And do so under pressure.
Realistically I reckon he will be off. Be it PSG, Back to Barca, Juventus or America.

Well there's an incentive, including for us. I don't want to be in the micky mouse league, but I'd take CL even if we went down.

Serves them right, cheating buggers trying to buy all footballs trophies. Need to take a few more out as well.
Re: Man City banned from Europe
nothing really done and dusted yet so will wait until after the arbitration, I would predict that this ruling will not stand, potentially one season ban but I hope it doesn't get quashed altogether.

Re: Man City banned from Europe
City look set to appeal this decision. If it’s like when Chelsea appealed their transfer embargo city will be allowed into next seasons champions league whilst the appeal happens and then the 2 year ban will get reduced to 1 year.

Move along, nothing to see here! What's betting the ban will be reduced to a token fine and a slap on the wrist after the appeal is heard?

Re: Man City banned from Europe
It strikes me that City's complaint that it's unfair because UEFA brought the case, prosecuted the case and ultimately decided in the case is daft because at the end of the day surely it's just like any other league in any other sport at basically any level. If you want to be a part of it you adhere to the rules it makes and if you don't they can do whatever they want with you, because it's THEIR league. If you don't like that they set the rules and administer the rules and decide who plays and who doesn't, then find another league, but surely they are all the same.

They’ll worm their way out of it somehow.
Re: Man City banned from Europe
I really don't see it like that, so many times we see things imposed and reduced after appeals.
Dark Cloud's take is interesting but also shows the unfairness of it all, judge jury and executioner is not supposed to be how it works, but in this case it seems exactly that, plus the jury leaked info to the judge and therefore the case was biased. Am sure the MC Legal Eagles will have a field day with this, and as I said I expect the judgement to be reduced but again I hope not.

Re: Man City banned from Europe
I know what you're saying, but to me it really isn't strictly speaking a "legal" thing. You join a league and the league makes rules and surely the league can basically chuck out anyone who doesn't follow those rules. I see it almost like wanting to be a member of a private club. If they decide your out, your out, because they really are "judge and jury" and in many ways they don't have to answer to anyone, except maybe the rest of the members might want to be satisfied that all was done fairly and that there really was a breach of rules and not some kind of witch hunt. IMO, it should have nothing to do with outside bodies. It's like telling the private club that it can't enforce it's own rules.KateR wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 7:44 pmI really don't see it like that, so many times we see things imposed and reduced after appeals.

I'm sure the brown envelope is on its way to the appeal panel as we speak.

Re: Man City banned from Europe
I hear what you are saying but if that was really the case then UEFA would simply tell MC, knock yourself out guys, you're banned and that's the end of it, but they're not for a reason. Again I hope I'm wrong, time will tell.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 7:50 pmI know what you're saying, but to me it really isn't strictly speaking a "legal" thing. I am not 100% sure about FFP but I thought some teams in the past had been given penalties but had them reduced on appeal, I have no facts to support this just something niggling the back of my brain, therefore if so there would be a precedence for reducing a ruling.
