Santana

Post by Silkyskills1 » Sun Feb 16, 2020 12:56 pm

Anyone see or record the Santana concert last night. Took me back to those 'heady' days of 1970 when I began life as a full time student in London. Brilliant musicians alongside Carlos Santana.

I always like Santana. However....(you knew there was going to be a but)....all there music seem to end the same.

If you played the last 10 seconds of any Santana song, I’m sure even the most diehard fan would have difficulty identifying.

Much easier to appreciate what you hear before ' the last ten seconds'. :D

'Smooth' is perfect for learning the basic moves of the 'cha, cha, cha'.

Always been a bit meh about old Carlos.
Seemed like a poor man's Hendrix.

But Samba Pa Ti is a nice enough toon.

There's little similarity stylistically between Santana and Hendrix.

I can think of hundreds of guitarists I'd rather listen to than either.

He's a bit like the guy who invented the wheel. We wouldn't have wheels without him but you can bet somebody made better wheels not long after.

Saw them live twice in the 70's, very exciting band live. First time they were supported by the original Journey, formed by Greg Rolie and Neil Schon from Santana. Can't agree with the comparison above between Santana and Hendrix, it's like comparing rugby and cricket, two completely different things. And neither are like Dave Gilmour. But they are all briiliant in their own way.

Best Santana album for me? Borboletta.

Just can't see any comparison at all. There's more between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. :(
