Tarkowski

Post by claretcarrot93 » Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:05 am

Been immense all season, well since we signed him really. Apart from Van Dijk I would not swap him with another defender in the league.

Have to agree, only Van Dijk better than Tarky.

Tarky and Mee are made out of English Oak. The last of a dying breed.

Runs out end of next season. Meaning he'll either sign an extension this summer or probably be off.

Defensively he really is an absolute beast. Immense in the air, outstanding in 1v1 situations when someone is running at him and he's deceptively very quick.

Just needs to refine his technique when in possession, because too often some of his passes are beyond wayward. But to be honest, I think at least half of that is due to the lack of options he's found in front of him at times. When he keeps it simple, he's sublime.

I think Tarkowski is a top class defender, but I can't believe some people think he's better than the likes of Laporte...

Come back to reality and take your claret tinted specs off for a while chaps.

I understand why you think this, but, I think Tarkowski can move in to Manchester City’s back four, I don’t think Laporte could move in to ours. Tarkowski is an awesome defender.

Laporte - Injured. Left footed. Would think about it though he is decent in warm weather
Vertonghen - Cant get in a bad Spurs defense. B-tech Ben Mee
Alderwierweld. Own goal machine
Joe Gomez- Got tackled by an advertising board.
wWilly Boly. Cant have a player called Willy and he is a poor mans Ian Cox

If those defenders just had to play like we do and have narrow full backs and a wall of four deep midfielders sitting in front of them they would be able to defend in their sleep. It would be so easy for them they'd probably retire out of boredom and take up gardening or something to test themselves a bit.

Put Tarks and Mee in a team like Man City who throw everyone forward and expect their centre halves to cope with having to defend half a pitch against attackers running at them then they would look like Keane did when he first went to Everton i.e. a rabbit in the headlights

What?!? You’re basing a players talent on wether or not he’ll fit our system? I doubt Messi could do the Barnes role. Or Ronaldo the tracking back.

Spot on.

I think Tarkowski would fare better than Keane actually if he was to move, because, as I noted above, he's actually pretty outstanding at 1v1 defending when he's got little forward running at him.

People are really this deluded?

Our system makes our central defenders look better than they are, it’s way easier to defend with 11 men behind the ball. People said the same nonsense about Keane, he went to Everton without 11 men behind the ball and was useless.

Tarkowski isn’t even the best English central defender in the league.

I like Tarkowski, I really do, but I like Mee slightly better and as a pairing they are so very good, but there is definitely room for improvement but I love watching a defensive masterclass they often provide.

I do think there are better defenders who have other attributes such as scoring goals, they score so little between them even though they are up there for corners set pieces etc., definitely an aspect of the game they could and should improve.

I hope they stay together for quite a while as we do need them in my opinion, but as with Keane everyone is replaceable.

Great for us. But can’t see him moving on from here. Possibly Leicester would take him to replace Evans. But can’t see anyone bigger or better than us that would offer him more than what he has here.

Possibly West Ham, Newcastle or Villa. Who are bigger clubs and would pay more. But in reality are they better career moves?

Don’t want to lose him but he’s not what some on here think. His biggest problem is thinking he’s Beckenbauer, he isn’t. One pass on Saturday, left foot instep, should have been simple, he passed it to a Saint and there wasn’t a Burnley player in sight. His defending is immense, his long passing(not hoofing) can be wonderful but he still has too many giveaway moments that could cost.

Agree that the one area his game lacks to be a world class CB is the distribution. As other have said, our system suits and showcases his outstanding defensive capabilities, showcasing them to the max. At City, or United, or Leicester, he’d be playing in a team with much more attacking intent where he’d be expected to play much more football.

I hope he stays and I’m hopeful he will. He’s formed a super strong partnership with Mee and I’d hope that counts for something as a player, and he would also command a huge fee that I’m not sure many clubs could afford, so it would depend on them making him their number one target in the summer. If we could retain that back line with a top class RB to compliment Lowts/Bardsley, we’d have an amazing foundation next season.

He's a perfect fit for Burnley because of our style of play and as important to us as Van Dyke is to Liverpool. He also has has a great partner in Mee (the pundits when we are on TV are very complimentary about this pairing at present).Stick him in a footballing team like Chelsea, or in the England team, then he would not hold his place. He has some serious competition for the England team -McGuire, Gomez, Stones, Mings who are all very comfortable with the ball

If anyone comes in for him it will be Leicester or Wolves who both have good coaching set ups. Personally I have a feeling that whilst we remain in the PL he will have no desire to move, and seems to be enjoying his football with us. Agree though-he has been immense this season

It's interesting comparing how we see our defenders to how supporters of other clubs might do.
I watched the game (on TV) with an Arsenal supporter, and whilst he admired the physical commitment of our defenders he commented that they seemed, primarily, to see how far they could head clear.
Now, I love our defending but can see what he was saying. But it keeps us competitive so very hard to fault it.

Thanks

Bur not great viewing that. I thought I was young before realising everyone in the squad is younger than me.

Tarks is a very good player, but he's still prone to having the odd stinker. Do that at Burnley and no one takes much notice because neutrals expect us to lose. Do it at a big club and you're quickly seen as a liability. You can see that in how players like Lovren, Jones and Stones are seen at big clubs.

That is very true. I think Tarkowski would struggle at a bigger club. With most of the bigger clubs sending their full backs flying forward, he would be far more isolated. At Burnley the team defend as one complete unit, if one makes a mistake, there’s someone else on hand to clean up so it goes unpunished.

I’m not sure he’s comfortable enough on the ball or got enough pace to cope with the demands of the modern day elite club.

Which is of course fantastic news for us. Same scenario with Dyche. Until other clubs appreciate the brilliance of what we do, we will stay under the radar and continue to defy expectations.

Think the idea that Tarkowski is protected at all times is getting over-played here. There is certainly some truth to it, but it's much less true these days than in the days when Michael Keane was in our back four.

Of course when the opposition have possession we get organised into a narrow defensive shape, but so does every team. Our full backs are probably that bit narrower than other sides and we probably rely on our wide players to do defensive work more than other teams, but the shape we take up really isn't much different to the shape Leicester will take up, for example.

There are also plenty of times when both our full backs push on in attack, leaving the centre halves exposed. Same as every other team. We probably do it that bit less often that other teams, but the notion our centre halves are constantly protected by other players is a bit of a nonsense.

Good defender but needs to cut out his long balls to the stands and stop thinking he is Pele playing out from the back

Of course they’re constantly protected. If they weren’t we’d be shipping 6 every game. They are up against some of the best forwards in the world. Our success comes from the very fact that we are constantly protecting our centre backs.
