Tarks is second only to VVD.

All the naval gazing and nit pickng about aspects of his play could be related to any centre half in the land. The bloke has fairly awesome ball skills for such a powerhouse..hes an absolute unit, and when hes turning out for a plastic club next season the media will creaming their collective pants over him.

The usual suspects on here cant ever quite understand that Burnley occasionally have top top players.

Of course they’re constantly protected. If they weren’t we’d be shipping 6 every game. They are up against some of the best forwards in the world. Our success comes from the very fact that we are constantly protecting our centre backs.
They are protected well, but are they protected all game, every game? Simply not true.

I think that suggestion does both Tarkowski and Mee a massive disservice.

A lot of comments saying he would be exposed at a bigger club, I actually think with a partner next to him that defends on the halfway line he wouldn't have much to do.
We back off far too early, the top sides sniff the danger out before it gets in their half.

Correct!

It's like no other centre halves are EVER done for pace, or EVER hit a long diag that doesn't come off....and don't forget that they only 'look good' because of our style of play.

I'm more interested about the 33/34 games where they are very good rather than the 4/5 when they have an off day. Again, ALL PLAYERS have off days - even the amazing Virgil van Dijk.

I'm convinced that there are some posters that read an OP on any particular thread and wonder how they can say something different that goes against the general consensus thus meaning they are not a 'happy clapper' or 'seeing things through Claret tinted specs'. It's quite easy to make an argument for most things as it's mainly opinion based....but it gets pretty tiresome and does make you wonder whether they are ever happy.

We only ever see other teams centre halves in soundbites on TV highlights when the media promote them. We see Tarks 90 minutes a week, we see every tackle, every pass and every mistake. We see all his warts.

I am firmly in the camp that he is second to VVD, even he makes mistakes.

As for LaPorte the jury is out. He rarely has to defend because his team spend at least 75% of their time in the opposition half and when an opponent has the audacity to cross the half way line there are hacked down

I'm by no means convinced that being a Man City defender is a harder job than being a Burnley defender.

Since Laporte was bought they’ve won 2 premier league titles and did the treble. Since he’s been injured they’ve shipped goals for fun. Have you not seen City at the back without him this season?

Did anyone note his involvement in our second goal?

It would have been so easy to pass back to Pope. Nice little flick with the outside of the boot when under pressure. 8-)

See what I said above. Until you have a controlled experiment you have no conclusion.

I did not say Tarks was better than LaPorte. I said the jury was out

Everything about that goal was outstanding really - Hendrick winning it back, the 1-2 with Tarkowski and his flicked pass, Hendrick's superb pass forward and then the brilliance of Vydra.

An over - reaction.

No doubt he is on form these last few games but there have been a lot of games this season he has looked like all the other ordinary centre halfs in this league.

Oh yes that "wayward" pass by Hendrick.

A lovely chipped pass with back spin, to everyone else who has eyes and a brain.

Laporte injured again whilst Tarks produces another MOM. If he is not in the next England squad then we are 100% winning the euro's as we must have a brilliant defence.

Such a masterly performance at Newcastle that he made Garth Crooks' team of the week in The Guardian - no higher accolade!?

Unfortunately despite his superb display in front of Southgate, Tarks is still number 3 central defender behind current favourites McGuire and Mings. They both also had good games over the weekend.
Of the other candidates Keane is fading and Stones has gone.

Tarkowski and Mings could be effective.

Only second to VVD in the prem in my opinion.

Tarky/Mee best partnership.

.....since Tommy Cummings. Early in his career Tommy was a classy centre half and very fast. He was decent as he got older too.

He is good, very good, but Maguire is ahead comparing overall aspects of the game
Tarks can improve with his distribution (far too many long balls ending up in the stands) and never looks confident enough to take the ball right into the opposition half like Maguire does
His chances of a recall were certainly improved with Southgate watching Sat
One of the co commentators on a stream I was watching Sat even suggested the England spine could be made up of Pope, Tarks and Mee
Now that would make me nervous given the weakness of all in the passing game
Still, more than happy to see them all turn out for us
