Love the A380, some plane and engineering!

You barely feel the landing on them, I'd imagine this one might have tested the landing gear though

Excellent skills from the Pilot. I've been on several aircraft when they have done this type of approach. It's fine when the wind is steady but the real skill is when it is gusting and the approach vector changes. This guy did great.

Really scary. Step daughter was in a similar situation Saturday dinner time on a BA flight from Mcr. She’d never been as scared on a flight and she’s a seasoned traveller. Her plane touched the runway but the pilot decided to go back up and try again.

No big deal. It's within the operational limits of the aeroplane and operating to those limits is what the pilot gets his over-inflated salary for. At a guess I'd say the A380 is less affected by gusts than smaller aeroplanes because of its huge mass.

I would disagree with your ‘over- inflated salary’ comment. Many have the opinion a human pilot isn’t required on computer operated systems guiding modern day aircraft. It’s instances such as a landing in unpredictable winds when an experienced, well paid pilot, earns his bacon, so to speak.

standard landing, nothing much to see tbh, these pilots are really good and do this in their sleep. Sadly I can't recall his name (sorry!) but we have at least one pilot on here - I would be interested in his opinion of this, looks nothing much more than a standard windy approach into Kai Tak back when that was open !

Landing at Heathrow the winds are far from unpredictable. Met. conditions are continually monitored and info. is available to the flight crew via ground controllers and aircraft instruments. In any case, the landing can be aborted just a few feet above the ground so it's not as if the pilot has no choice.

If experienced, well-paid pilots were paid in bacon then some of the largest airlines operating in/out of Heathrow wouldn't be able to operate in those conditions.

That's some big ass rudder there. I find the physics of a cross wind landing very interesting, plus I can always use the wind as an excuse for yet another off centre landing!

I'm not a commercial pilot, just light single engined stuff e.g. Cessna 172, Piper PA28 Warrior and Piper Tomahawk. I bow to the likes of BennyD

I got bored of flying around in Cessnas and such so these days I just tend to fly WW2 warbirds and classic fighter jets! Seems like more fun and it's a lot cheaper

This is me pulling 5g in a Mig 15 at 800kmh !

Jezzzzzzzzzzzzzz Kai Tak was something else . Now sitting on the left hand side of the plane and you could see people in their rooms as you bank over to land .
Also went to the walled city in HK ( that's gone as well ) and i felt that you could touch the planes while of the roof , mad stuff .
