We can't afford to rush Barnes and Wood back, also too much of a risk to play Vydra who's not match fit regardless of his heroics last week, we can't afford to play Vydra and Rodriguez together with the lack of options we currently have. Get Lennon on the wing and Hendrick playing behind Jay. Wouldn't introduce Brownhill until we are safe
That seems mental to me.

Play Hendrick behind Jay, instead of Vyrda, when Hendrick has performed consistently well in his current position, and Vydra scored a worldy last week?

I'd start 4-4-2 with Vydra and change it if he looks like he is tiring.

Dyche can't become a hypocrite. The very reason he's not played Vydra is because other players have delivered. You can't drop Vydra after that. Especially at home against beatable opposition. I think he'll start 442 and the plan will be to bring Brownhill on to change things up later on if we need to.

If there's a change to make it will be Lowton or Gudmundson coming in for a greater attaching threat.

Hopefully we see Brownhill come on in a central role. He can play on the wing but his best form has been in the centre. If we can get a good lead it would be a good time to bring him on.

I'm glad we have good cover up top. We would be in big trouble if we were forced to change the system because we let Vydra move on.

Sure he scored as well

Could be wrong

It would be ridiculous to bench vydra after that. His morale would sink like a stone, and it basically tells any fringe players that it's nigh on impossible to break into the first 11 regardless of what you do when given the chance. The idea that we shouldn't play Vydra because of our lack of options doesn't make sense. He is our option, and we need him. First name on the teamsheet for me.

Why do you think we can't afford to carry on playing 4-4-2? We've played it all season.

Vydra can start and come off after 70 minutes if he's lagging.

If Wood is injured, I reckon he will play 4-5-1 and bring Brownhill in. There's also the slight possibility JBG could return which will allow Dyche to play Hendrick off Jay Rod.

I personally hope Vydra starts, he deserves it. Although his legs did look gone towards full time against Southampton so he won't last the full game, understandably.

The most obvious would be to start with the side that finished against Southampton.
Thw only other factor would be if SD thinks Vydra is capable of starting and lasting the pace, but I can't see him changing the formation.

5 reasons why I'd be very surprised if we go 4-5-1.
  • We've not played 4-5-1 this season (if we have it'll only be the odd game)
  • Vydra will be chomping at the bit to carry on from where he left off
  • It's not the best example to show players, if you score a winning goal, then the manager changes formation to avoid selecting you. Player morale is hugely important.
  • It's home to Bournemouth, not away to Man City
  • We're on 34 points and so not in a battle to hold on and defend for our lives for 1 point draws
Of course, this is Sean Dyche so anything is possible :)

Because you can start him and bring him off after 60-70 minutes. A player needs matches to get match fit. 4-5-1 would be far too negative for me, at home to a team we are well capable of beating. And against a team I feel Vydra would do well against.

We have two match fit strikers, Vydra is a striker you know! I agree with you about not risking the other two that aren’t fully fit.
I also hope he goes with the same 11 that finished the Southampton game

There is more reason to start Vydra next game, :D than there was in bringing him on after Wood's injury Saturday. And look what happened Saturday. SIMPLES !

Same old conundrum. How does Vydra get match fit if he doesn't play matches?

I'll bet he's training like mad this week and ready to put on a show. He'll be absolutely gutted if he doesn't start and rightly so.

OK, if he tires, take him off later in the game, but don't deny him the chance.

For all the sly digs at Dyche, it must be remembered that Vydra came on against Southampton after only 22 minutes, away, and with the score at 1-1. If Wood isn’t available then probably a very good chance that Vydra starts. Even so, you’d think after all these years that Dyche would have earned the respect of our fans to be trusted to make the best decisions for the club and team whatever he decides. That’s just me being naive though and forgetting that access to a football internet forum gives you the footballing intelligence of Jürgen Klopp, but unfortunately not the humility.

Assuming Wood is out then Vydra must start, it would be unfathomably unfair on him to be on the bench imho. Look at the reaction he got from the players and supporters last weekend, to drop him would send out a terrible message to the squad.

In other words he should start on Saturday v Bournemouth....

Also nobody is suggesting we have found the new Aguero ffs but he is itching to prove himself and why we invested in him in the 1st place....

Give Vydra a chance startibg Saturday.

It seems that there is money available for the right player as apparently we DID bid for Vedat Muriqi in January. (And we were the only ones to bid.)

Had he arrived though, we probably wouldn't have got to see Vydra's wonder goal.

https://turkish-football.com/burnley-of ... -make-bid/

One thing is for sure, if he was to arrive in the summer, he'd certainly provide competition up front.

After waiting in the wings so long for his chance now that has finally arrived (injuries to Barnes and Wood) it would be somewhat ironic if he was denied that opportunity on the grounds of not being "match fit".

Difficult to get match sharpness sitting on the subs bench week after week.

If Vydra is not in the starting 11 come 3pm Saturday then he never will be.

When Wood went off at Southampton I was convinced Brownhill would come on and we'd go 4-5-1. If Dyche trusted Vydra to come on so early then I don't see why he wouldn't trust him to start on Saturday?

Keep it simple, start with the team that finished at Southampton. All these ideas of moving Hendrick from his only true position to play in the number 10 role and bring Lennon it etc, etc are nonsense . Fortunately Dyche does tend to keep things simple and does not stray from the well tested path.

That's a bit of a silly comment isn't it? Crouch came for peanuts at the end of his career. This lad is 25 and we apparrently offered over £20 million for him with Man U and Spurs interested as well.

He's no Peter Crouch and I don't think Febarnache take Twix's either.

it's never too late to develop a sense of humour. I'm trying to, perhaps you should too.

But i'm actually not displeased that whatever we bid wasn't enough to buy this beanpole of a centre forward.

He's a beanpole that scores goals. What's not to like? Imagine what he could do with our set peices and corners.

Let's agree to disagree. Watching Man City now.

I think there would be every chance that we'd become over reliant on the high ball (again), but we'll never know now.
But I would say that our tendency to lump it towards Crouch was a tactical low point in my personal opinion, and I wouldn't want to see similar tactics in future.

Enjoy the MC game.

I think there would be every chance that we'd become over reliant on the high ball (again), but we'll never know now.
But I would say that our tendency to lump it towards Crouch was a tactical low point in my personal opinion, and I wouldn't want to see similar tactics in future.

Enjoy the MC game.
Sean likes his strikers and even if we hopefully evolve to play more on the grass stuff, I'm sure he'll want to retain the Barnes / Wood type option. If that option is better than Barnes or Wood, (And I think Muriqi would be.) all the better. Muriqi also has a high assist record.

Don't write off a move for him in the summer. Sean is like a dog with a bone where players are concerned. How long has he been wanting Brownhill?

Man City should be two up by now but Jesus forget his shooting boots.

Barnes is surely a good few weeks off and if Woods has done a hammy I’d imagine 3 weeks at the very least . That said I’m sure of the severity of Woods injury . Wood is a huge miss but Vydra could grab his chance...again

I’d be shocked if the finishing 11 from Southampton didn’t start. Jay and Vydra will have had a week training for this too and could prove a real handful for Bournemouth.

Shows the depth we have when we’re excited at the prospect of our numbers 3 and 4 strikers starting the game. Really hope they do well as it allows the opportunity for Barnes and Wood to fully recover and not be rushed back.

I’m not sure they are! But I think he deserves a start after Southampton

Given any opportunity to have wood or Barnes back Dyche will take it. Dyche doesn’t like Vydra and only played him on Saturday as it was the only option. Dyche played an injured Barnes for months remember instead of giving Vydra ago.

Who would you replace Chris wood with, should he not be fit for the Bournemouth game (assuming Barnes isn’t fit) ?
