No, you’re right. It’s definitely more likely that what you are seeing or hearing is a dead person than your imagination. Is that how it works? Dead people floating around rooms whilst somehow making footstep noises and avoiding being captured by any photographic evidence.

Who sounds more crazy?

Robustly convincing yourself that there’s no such things as ghosts, despite millions of books & a countless number of films fiction/factual about paranormal activity out there, I’ve read some posts about creaking floorboards & the brain playing tricks which is true accounting for some experiences, some things just can’t be explained however you logically reason.

It’s far more likely there are other things out there. Be it alive or dead. Than just us. Whatever the likes of Riley bobs say to the contrary.

Is it really more likely that in a universe of 100 billion stars with however many thousands of billions of planets orbiting them there isn’t something a bit paranormal out there?

It’s really just us and some other mammals, fish, birds and reptiles?

Because we can’t explain or prove something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Do you think people who write books or make films about this subject might just have an ulterior motive?

Just a thought.

I don’t need to robustly convince myself that something doesn’t exist. I need to be robustly convinced that it does. Are you convinced that there’s no such thing as the tooth fairy? And if so, why?

I agree entirely with the last part of your final sentence. Some things can’t be explained. So why assume they are caused by dead people. It’s actually pretty mental to make that leap. There is literally no logic or science behind that. It’s blind faith based on what you’ve read in books and seen in films. It’s fiction.

He was probably robustly convinced when his parents told him it was them putting a quid under his pillow and he did the same years later.

It’s not even remotely similar.

Whoa, hold on a sec. I didn’t claim that there wasn’t life elsewhere in this universe. There almost certainly is. What I said is that when you hear some footsteps outside your bedroom they aren’t being made by dead people. I think that’s a fairly sensible position to take.

Photographs have been taken in churches etc, showing apparitions & the photographs have been studied & verified as not fake & genuine, the camera as picked up what the human eye couldn’t see.

It is similar, there is absolutely no proof that either exist. There is no more logic or scientific explanation that makes ghosts any more conceivable than the tooth fairy.

I said it’s highly likely based on scientific theory. We know what components are needed for life to exist. We also know that the chances of earth being the only planet in the whole universe to have those components is extremely minute. So we can’t prove that life exists elsewhere but we can use science to determine the likelihood of it.

Whereas on the other hand, oooh scary old woman wearing a sheet floating around with her head under her arm.

It's probably because he can't quite get his head around the fact that there are grown up humans who believe in Ghosts.

It's the Western belief akin to the nutters in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan etc, believing that their god is real.

Apologies if I was wrong, I may have mixed you up with fidel. I can't be bothered to check back on who was making the pointless comments earlier on, along the lines of no one has seen ghosts they don't exist, Iam right and anyone else is stupid etc.

But really, you have to go to Ireland, USA or Kenya etc for Christian/Catholic nutcases.

It's turned to Ghosts and depression in this country.

It’s really not difficult. There is proof that life exists, we are that proof. There is scientific evidence that other parts of our universe may be able to sustain life.

There is no proof that ghosts exist. There is no scientific explanation or rationale as to why or how they would.

Good reason for that, ghosts/spirits are close to the dead so you’d expect them to be around churches & cemetery’s, you tend to see tins of plummed tomatoes on supermarket shelves & not on a golf course, ghost photographs have been taken all over anyway the church was only a example.

Good reason for that, ghosts/spirits are close to the dead so you’d expect them to be around churches & cemetery’s, you tend to see tins of plummed tomatoes on supermarket shelves & not on a golf course, ghost photographs have been taken all over anyway the church was only a example.
Rileybobs tbf is I think mixing up dead bodies with His spirits. 8-)

My brother in law as a child used to have an imaginary friend by the name of Neil. He was about three at the time. Strange name for an imaginary friend of a child but there you go.

‘Neil’ was always in the living room by the fireplace.

Anyway many years later my nephew who was then around two or three himself and had only just started talking. He was sat in the living room and pointed to the fireplace. And said ‘neils over there’.
I bet it was that bloody Neil who always left the immersion heater on.

Just moved home around 8 weeks ago. Last week I woke to footsteps across the landing, i presumed it was my daughter off to the bathroom, but no lights came on so i checked and she was in bed.
Later that night my wife sat up in bed, i said what's up, she said she could here footsteps on the landing, I then heard them, jumped out of bed and again the kids were fast asleep.
I told my wife it was my daughter so she wouldn't worry.

Now last night my son called out and woke me up in the middle of the night.

Just now I said to my lad , oh yea don't be shouting waking me up in the middle of the night again , he replied " Dad you was on the landing" I said i was in bed, and he laughed and said " dad I could here you walking across the landing" at this point I just said ah yea.

Spooky **** .

I have also heard things being dropped in the rooms when the house is empty . The house is around 300 years old.
Haven’t read the whole thread but have commented on these type of threads before. Far too much narrow minded ness on here and you are opening yourself to ridicule. I believe what you are saying though. Some people are more receptive to these type of occurrences.

Can agree it seems its people succeptability . As I mentioned above the one strange incident that happened to me I was under massive stress after a bereavement.

How does your plumbing cause your floorboards to creak, even if it’s faulty?

Bring religious has been replaced with a belief in ghosts and depression in Britain? I don’t really understand what you mean.

But I wonder how many of those denying the existence of ghosts believe in a God.
Surely nobody, if we're talking of a ghost being the spirit of a deceased person.

But there's other theories such as the 'stone tape theory', where physical objects, such as walls, can store information and replay it on a loop. So you see a figure walk through a bedroom but it's just replaying something that happened in the past. There's no consciousness.

Actually you didn't mention "a bereavement" in your post. Sometimes a common theme in sightings or strange events you just cant put your finger on.

More about the Stone Tape theory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Tape
The Stone Tape theory is the speculation that ghosts and hauntings are analogous to tape recordings, and that mental impressions during emotional or traumatic events can be projected in the form of energy, "recorded" onto rocks and other items and "replayed" under certain conditions.

I wondered when Muchacho would be along with his “stone tape” theory. It’s the Homeopathic argument for Ghosts.
