CB radios

Hi, I'm just wondering if anybody still uses them, I was having a look at them on eBay the other day & reminiscing when I had a rig, wasn't sideband for long distance just a 40 channel for local with a whip lash aerial & a indoor with a magmount on a metal biscuit tin.

Back in the early 80's we all had them ....
1971 Toyota Celica with a 5ft Firestick on the bootlid and an indoor biscuit tin whip aerial... slide mount in the car for quick removal, and one in doors to plug it in at home
Record Town Breakers Club .... used to do all sorts ... convoys to Blackpool ... monthly meets etc ...

Back in day, 19 for a copy, I haven’t used 1 for yonks hence asking, still see some house roofs & vehicles with the Ariels mostly 4x4s land rovers etc. Don’t think as many people use them now.

Is that the same as ham radio now I think? Or is that a different thing. Had an acquaintance that would disappear into his back room all night and talk to radiophiles from all over the world.

My dad still runs his business now in his early 70s repairing, supplying and hiring radios. Works a lot with local Burnley taxi companies as well as more major events such as concerts and TV shows. Definitely a small market, but still surviving in commercial environments

They used to operate at the lay-by on top of the hills between Colne and Carleton. It's also a favourite spot for UFO-watching geeks.

Ham radio was/is very serious and has worldwide communication. You have to qualify for a licence!

Girls went mad for the trips off m8.... Plus the Celica turned into a "Dukes of Hazard
General Lee" look a like 2 door pillarless coupe ... on a dark night, squinting and wearing mirror shades.... we even used to practise jumoing in with the doors shut... we were that sad
Lost count of the late night conquests that car saw before it went to that great Scrapyard in the sky
I loved that car and the adventures we had in it
...

Funny this should be brought up. Last week a couple of older colleagues were reminiscing about their late teens and CB radio. Sounded dull, but each to their own. One story made my laugh though. Apparently, one of them got chatting to a woman called Sexy-Love-Bunny. She invited him over to her house for 'beer and much fun'. When he got there a twenty stone woman answered the door and growled "well have you brought the fecking beer or what!". He said he did a runner.

Sounds fun mate...but did you ever pull a 'Daisy Duke'? I think she was the only reason I watched that programme, those legs went on forever. Boss Hogg made me laugh though.

I think I slept with her once.
I've never been to bed with an ugly woman - but I've woke up with a few.
