Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Just seen that Barcelona have signed Martin Braithwaite from Leganes.
They were authorized to make a signing outside the transfer window due to Dembele being injured for 5 months+.
Seems very unfair on Leganes who have lost a key player that they cant replace
I hope we never see this in England.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Surely they weren’t forced to sell him?

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
I think there was a release clause in the contract that was hit.
Although a decent fee for them - seems unfair that a bigger team can take the player when Leganes have to wait for the transfer window to replace.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
15 million release clause so near as damn it were forced.....i get it is their own fault for having the amount in the contract but this is outside of the window where they don't have time to replace - as they are fighting relegation
Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
I believe all footballers in Spain legally have to have a release clause in their contracts.

From Boro to Barcelona, maybe that's what Gibson is up to?

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
That will be why Barca have put in a 250 million one in his contract - thought it was odd!
Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Watching the Dortmund game the other night I was surprised to see Haarland score, thought he would have been cup tied having played for Slazburg in the group stages. New ruling allows the big guns to cherry pick off those knocked out at the group stage.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
15 million for Martin Braithwaite jeez, he’s an absolute dolloper.
Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
I think we should break the bank and meet Barca’s £251m buyout clause for him.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Rules applying to the Champions League are a total joke now. Rules are only there until a case arises for one of the bigger/richer clubs. A couple of years ago the rule stating that any owner could only have one club in the competition went out the window when both Red Bull teams Leipzig and Salzburg qualified. I think Man City will drag their 2 year ban through the various courts, who will rule that the ban won't apply until legal proceedings have terminated, by which time they could possibly have won the competition.

Its amazing what a strong negotiating position can do for a playerClaretAndBlue94 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:38 pmI was stunned they have given him a deal until 2024
Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
I was wondering about that as well. Then I realised it's no doubt yet another rule that's been brought in to suit the big clubs.

I was waiting for some unscrupulous poster to suggest that UEFA rules were only designed for the big boys and that there may even have been payments made to keep the law enforcers happy. How pleasing that that hasn't been suggested. The people at UEFA and FIFA would never stoop to that would they.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
This is what Leganes have had to say:
"We will raise our voice," said Leganes director general Martin Ortega. "We are in a situation of enormous and serious damage.
"We cannot understand the current regulation that a club, having a long-term injury, can perform this operation unilaterally and transfer their problem to our club.
"We consider that there is a regulation that is unfair, from which Barcelona has benefited. The one who is damaged by this is Leganes."

There you have it then. What a stupid and unfair rule.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 1:54 pmThis is what Leganes have had to say:

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Ortega is absolutely correct - they have, in effect, transferred their problem to Leganes. It’s absolutely outrageous. I can just about understand when clubs have been given special dispensation in the case of goalkeepers but outfield players? At a club the size of Barcelona? It stinks.

Completely and utterly unfair but also not surprising in the slightest.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Completely unfair on Leganes, why Barcelona couldn't have brought in a player from their youth team I don't know or if they 100% had to sign someone then it should be a free agent and not a player from another club who then cannot be allowed to replace them.
However on the UEFA rule meaning players who played earlier in the competition can now move clubs in January and still be allowed to play is absolutely correct. The player now plays for a new club, why can't the player then play for them? Similar to the cup tied rules here with League and FA Cups should be removed. It would be like us signing Andre Gray from Watford in January but the Premier League not allowing him to play as he has already played for Watford this season, it sounds ridiculous!

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Putting aside the "moral question", I am almost as staggered by this bloke signing for Barcelona as Igahao being signed by MUPLC. 1 April seems to occur more than once a year.
Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Barca should not have been allowed to sign anyone really. Make do with what they have, like any other club. I've not read enough about this to understand the logic or reasons for permitting it. As for the Barca players all wearing Dembele shirts before kick off in a match - he has a hamstring injury FFS, he didn't die

Not only is it unfair on Leganes. It’s actually unfair against the rest of the league and the competition.
Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Surely Leganes should be allowed to replace him at the very least

Well there's a surprise, further proof that the big clubs really do rule the roost.Surely what's good for the goose is good for the gander, evidently not in this case.ClaretAndBlue94 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 11:18 amhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51657255 - Leganes have had their request to sign a replacement refused.

This transfer is funnier than Lee Grant signing for United.

What’s even more galling is that they let two young forwards and graduates of La Masia go in January. Abel Ruiz went to Braga and Carles Perez to Roma. The latter played a few games in La Liga at the start of the season when Messi was injured.claretburns wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 3:14 pmCompletely unfair on Leganes, why Barcelona couldn't have brought in a player from their youth team I don't know or if they 100% had to sign someone then it should be a free agent and not a player from another club who then cannot be allowed to replace them.

No club the size of Barcelona has an injury crisis, they may have 1st team regulars out but it's not a crisis.
If they can't field enough subs then it's a crisis.

Re: Barcelona Signing of Martin Braithwaite
Exactly this makes a mockery of the transfer window, the only exemption should be for a specialist position (goalkeeper) beyond that tough you'll have to manage with what you've got,we've had 2 forwards sidelined in recent weeks, and other teams have suffered injuries,it's part of the game you deal with it,not go crying to your domestic FA.Shore claret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 8:32 pmNo club the size of Barcelona has an injury crisis, they may have 1st team regulars out but it's not a crisis.
