so I suppose the bigger question is, will he start if really fit, will he be on the bench just in case. Given the last performance SD must have a little more confidence to start with the finishing 11 from the last game and have two first team regular starters on the bench whom he can give some actual game to.

Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Excellent news that Wood's injury isn't serious and JBG is back.
While I'd love Vydra to be given another go on Saturday, if it is Wood that starts, it's still good news.

Wood unlikely to start in my opinion. You all know how Sean likes his players to "Come back once." Good opportunity to give Vyds and JayRod a chance.
Other interesting news, though not much said about it.
Sean. "Steve Stone is back in the building. He is looking at our players who are out on loan because we have 11 out. There has been an independent enquiry and the situation has been resolved."

Pretty sure we said Gudmonssen "had a chance" of playing at United last month. 4 weeks later and still no sign of himclaretandy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 1:54 pmTouch and go translates to out for the rest of the month.

Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Why would Sean change things? We are on a good run with the team that started last week. OK, we lost Wood, but Vyds did OK, didn't he?
I'd start with the eleven that finished at Southampton and see what happens. Maybe bring Gudders on near the end if the situation warrants it.
C'mon you PL Clarets.

I'd start with the team that finished at Southampton and give Wood a rest.

Would expect to see Wood on the bench then - if only for squad management reasons. Vydra and Wood both deserve to start.
Interesting decision on the right hand side this week. Jeff was excellent last week, but the Bardsley/Hendrick axis has been toothless at home in a 4-4-2, and I'd like to see Lennon brought in to offer extra penetration on that side.

Doesn't Sean always do this to keep the opposition manager guessing. We're clearly not going to play the same way with or without Wood. No point giving them more information than they need.

As I said on another thread. I like Cork, but maybe Brownhill could play the Defour role and slide enticing passes through to Vyds and JayRod.

I think Brownhill will slowly find his way in the side but I can't see him starting until it's either a forced move due to injury/suspension, or he comes on and plays brilliantly.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 2:40 pmAs I said on another thread. You're probably right about him having to wait, but it's a shame, because his apparrent ability would suit both Vyds and JayRod. What a shame if we don't get to see them on the pitch at the same time before Vyds gets forced out.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 2:42 pmI think Brownhill will slowly find his way in the side but I can't see him starting until it's either a forced move due to injury/suspension, or he comes on and plays brilliantly.

Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Not really - because by all accounts Lennon was about our best player in the two cup ties (admittedly I missed both) and has been pretty good in the little cameos he's had over the last 2-3 months. I also think that the introduction of Jay (and now possibly also Vydra) plays far more to the strengths of Lennon because it gives him a forward who will drop deep and creates the space to move into , whilst also being capable of providing the sort of pass into that space that Lennon has made his career from exploiting. He's never had that before in his time at Burnley, because that's not the way we've played with Barnes and Wood (or Vokes previously) up front.
No objection to the idea of Brownhill - and I'm a huge fan of Hendrick which is why I badged this as a tricky decision. Like I say, it's an interesting call.

Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
The hamstring problem might not have been serious, but they can be troublesome things, dragging on longer than some other injuries.
I don't think they'll risk him when there's no need.
Give him extra rest.

And quite right too.
I think the suggestion of starting Lennon, when you take into account who we've recently beat, and that Hendrick isn't injured, is ludicrous.

BIG weekend coming up. We have by far the easiest game ( in theory) and need to win to remove any lingering thoughts of relegation. Defeats for Bournemouth Watford Norwich West Ham Villa Brighton and Newcastle who all have tough away games would imo put us safe. They won’t all lose but don’t see many if any wins

And probably rightly. But the right hand side has been an issue at home recently, against stubborn opponents, when Bardsley and Hendrick are in tandem. Bournemouth have traditionally been pretty open, but away from home this season they've been more defensively minded and tended to play on the counter attack.

Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Not a hope of Wood playing, he won't even make the bench. Not a problem, I'd rather he came back 100% than with a niggle.
The only problem that would leave is who comes on if Jay or Vydra get injured. I would imagine a shuffle with Hendrick going forward and Brownhill getting a run out.

I agree there is no chance of Wood playing. As said above he is just playing his cards close to his chest and if he is not 100% fit why should be take the risk
Same 11 that finished, JBG to come on if no penetration down right
Brownhill will get his chance all in good time

Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Last stat I saw was that 65% of our wing play comes from the left. We ARE a bit unbalanced in that respect. Our right side needs a bit of a look at in Summer but maybe the answer might be Brownhill. But what would happen with Hendrick (unless he goes)?claretspice wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 3:42 pmAnd probably rightly. Where has everyone got this idea that Brownhill is some kind of magic right winger. He’s a centre mid. Hendrick is a better right midfielder anyway, as that is Hendricks position. Brownhill will replace Westwood or cork when an injury comes.

Presuming JBG will be on the bench and get the last 20,though can’t fault Jeff’s work ,we are weak going forward on the right .Though a fit Lowton and JBG do help certainly at home

To plan for next season without him and to introduce Brownhill or alternatively (fingers crossed) to force his hand on a new contract.

You are another then that doesn't understand his value? He reads the game a lot better than most and Dyche knows it.
Also, don't forget, he's only in his current role because JBG is out but he's making a great job of it.

Don’t think that but it’s wondering where he fits in (assuming we don’t want him on the bench). Hendrick is generally doing a fine job but we are, statistically, weak on the right. Then we have JBG. I’m wondering if the club know more than we think about Hendrick’s intentions?Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 5:43 pmWhere has everyone got this idea that Brownhill is some kind of magic right winger. Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Gordaleman : i don't think Iwoodlovett is under estimating Hendrick's value to the team , but if he hasn't signed a new contract we have to prepare for next season . One of the reasons 65% of our wing play comes down the left , is due to Taylor does a lot more overlapping than lowts or bards . As for Saturday I'd expect the same team as last week and hopefully we've Wood and JBG on the bench .

You’ve missed the point. I am a Hendrick fan as well, but if he is hell bent on moving on, there is no point in playing him once we're safe.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 7:04 pmYou are another then that doesn't understand his value? He reads the game a lot better than most and Dyche knows it.

1. We just bought a ready made replacement.
2. Hendrick is unlikely to risk things with a new club and will avoid injury at all costs.
3. SD is more likely to to tweak the system than to go all out for a place in the Europa cup.

Maybe you have some inside information that I'm not aware of, but who says Hendrick is leaving? Just because he hasn't signed a new deal yet, doesn't mean he won't do. On the other hand, maybe he's not being offered one. Sean and the team keep things in house until there is something to say. At the moment, there is nothing to say.IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 8:23 pmYou’ve missed the point. Re: ARTICLE: Wood in with a chance for Saturday
Hendrick is nothing like Brownhill, so hardly a like for like swap. Hendrick is playing out wide because we haven't a decent winger on that side, that's all. When JBG is back, he might be a bit redundant and possibly he is thinking of leaving, but possibly not. Maybe he would be happy to be a squad player, after all, that's been his role most of the time he's been here.houseboy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 7:10 pmDon’t think that but it’s wondering where he fits in (assuming we don’t want him on the bench). I think Brownhill has been brought in to do the Defour role which would be great for strikers like JayRod and Vyds. I just hope we get to see those three on the field together, before Sean decides to let Vyds go.
Judging by Sean's comment earlier today in which he said about Vyds "If he plays." That to me suggests he willl unless something unforseen happens before the game.

Interesting views on Hendrick, the fact is he will be badly missed.
Over 4 seasons he has played more games and scored more goals than any of our other recognised midfielders.
