Hebden Bridge/Mytholmroyd Flooded?
I drive this way from Barnsley to the home games, I read that the Hebden Bridge area was flooded in the recent storms, does anyone know if this route is open, don't want to head that way tomorrow and have to turn around
Re: Hebden Bridge/Mytholmroyd Flooded?
The road is open but it took someone I know 40 minutes to get through Mytholmroyd last week.
You might be better going to Milnrow on the M62 then through Todmorden this is the way I go from Tod to Huddersfield and although longer it is quicker.

Mytholmroyd has been a bit of a lottery for the past 4 years. The traffic lights at the roadworks can hold you up for half an hour or more, or you can sometimes breeze through them; depends on the time of day. If you are going to use this route, add an extra half hour contingency.

IMO it would be illogical to attempt that route through the valley tomorrow in light of the high water table and the weather forecast when there are other routes open - albeit they might theoretically take a little longer. Not driven through today, but lots of water on the roads between Burnley / Cliviger / Todmorden yesterday morning, and I doubt things will improve.

You could come off the M62 at Milnrow and come via Hollingworth Lake and Tod. There’s not much in it, time wise.

Personally I'd just stay on the M62 and come down the M66 to avoid potential problems.

I'd drive up towards Leeds past Wakefield, onto the M62 then M66. 90 minutes. Although coming off earlier at Milnrow > Tod as mentioned is an option, but you can decide en route, depending on the traffic.
Re: Hebden Bridge/Mytholmroyd Flooded?
Drove from Burnley to Halifax yesterday (Thursday) at 10:00am. Took an hour and 20 mins going. Biggest hold up was Mythomriyd but there are other bits of roadworks along the route.
Coming back at 3:00 took an hour to get back. Some of the temporary road works had gone.
I’d leave yourself additional time if you’re coming to the match tomorrow.

The waterfalls coming off the hills all along the valley makes it look like Norway

The road works in aid of the flood defences at Mytholmroyd have caused more havoc than any actual flood!!!

If you're as far south as Barnsley, you might be as well going across to Penistone and getting on the Woodhead. Neither Manchester club are at home tomorrow so you should get through Mottram easy enough then it's all motorway.

The reason I go the way I do is down to mileage. If I use all motorways it is 30 miles further (and about the same time) than if I go cross country. But I think I will do the Milnrow route as suggested. Thanks all

That would be my route. Up to Rawtenstall and you're only 15 minutes from Burnley.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 10:41 amPersonally I'd just stay on the M62 and come down the M66 to avoid potential problems.

Mottram is never easy bud. I go to Sheffield a lot (although over the Snake because of where I go) and it is pretty much always a damn nightmare, I dread it. Glossop is just as bad - once took me an hour and a half to do 3 miles when they had roadworks. That day it was 6.5 hours to Sheffield and back and the round trip for me is just under 120 miles.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:11 amIf you're as far south as Barnsley, you might be as well going across to Penistone and getting on the Woodhead. It is a nice journey though over the Snake (if it's not foggy or snowing).

It's just been on Sky News with someone reporting in Mytholmroyd that it is expected to be flooded tomorrow morning.damo_whitehead wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:23 amThe reason I go the way I do is down to mileage. Not sure why you consider mileage to be important.damo_whitehead wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:23 amThe reason I go the way I do is down to mileage. I guess it all depends on your vehicle (e.g. diesel v petrol), but I reckon that if I did the extra 30 mlies on the motorway driving at a steady 60/ 65 I'd quite possibly use less fuel than constantly gear changing, stop starting etc on the more direct route. Additionally there are far fewer horrendous potholes if you keep to the motorway, so you reduce the wear and tear on your vehicle.
Anyway whatever you decide - good luck and let's hope your journey is well worth it. UTC.
