I initially thought we were very lucky with their first goal being disallowed as it appeared to come off Billing's shoulder.

Having seen it from another angle now, I'm not so sure and think VAR might have got it right.

The ball appears to strike him at the top of the arm which he also raises as it hits him, which seems to divert the ball towards the goal.

The more I watch that replay the more convinced I am that he deliberately uses the top of his arm to direct the ball towards goal. Now I'm not even sure that it was accidental.

So what's the difference between Ballotelli's and Billings then? They both redirect the ball using their shoulder

No they don’t, Billing uses the top of his arm. It hits him on the sponsors logo.

Balotelli connects with the ball with the horizontal (hope I don't get pulled up for calling nearly horizontal, horizontal) part of his body above his arm and next to his neck - aka the shoulder. This has never to my knowledge been handball. Billings connects with the ball below his shoulder joint on his arm - this has always been handball.

VAR is great for unfashionable teams in the premier league. How many decisions go the big teams way when playing the lesser teams is just unbelievable. This also takes the pressure from the ref who bottles the decisions to award say Burnley a penalty away at Arsenal for example.

We should be hoping they keep VAR just the way it is imo
