Struggled first half, much better second half with some lovely football on display, but we were absolutely assisted by some dreadful VAR decisions.

Pope - 8
Taylor - 7
Tarks - 7
Mee - 7
Bardsley - 7
McNeil - 8 (could have been a 9 but he only began to excel after AFCB collapsed)
Cork - 7
Westwood - 7
Hendrick - 8 (special note for his superb harrying)
Rodriguez - 8
Vydra - 9 (would have been 10 but for two misses)
Brilliant after a shaky start. Would have lost that game though without the (100% correct) VAR. Bouncing a ball off your arm into the path of your striker, and controlling one on your arm in your own box - both rarely given without VAR. We need to look at why we needed VAR in the first place and tighten up (particularly Mee for ending up on his arse). Those minor defensive lapses aside though, it was like Tyson Fury against Wilder.

Great second half display and we weren’t too bad first half either tbh going forward. Defending was a bit ropey first half and whilst wind was difficult to cope with I’m not sure that excuses not tracking runners at the back post - luckily we had Nick Pope who was looking pretty unbeatable.
The defending for their second goal was pretty shocking. Mee’s challenge was awful and he should not have gone to ground as he left Tarks in a pretty impossible position. Not sure Tarks dealt with it that well either - backed off as he had 2 men...but at some point he then has to decide which one he is going to challenge and he doesn’t.
Anyway we probably had a bit of luck in the game with their first disallowed goal but even though they could have easily scored 2 or 3 we could have easily scored 6 or 7. Their keeper had a very good game

Nil a piece at half time was hugely important because we were always going to dominate in the second half considering the conditions.

I think Eddie's tactics were to make this as open a game as possible (especially after what happened at Dean Court). Bit of a gamble that backfired.
Was really happy to go in at half time 0-0, I said at the time, that the 2nd half would be a totally different game. The wind was really bad and hampered us, especially when clearing our lines.
As for VAR, both decisions were correct by the letter of the law, but on the day, I'd have been happy to let their goal at 1-0 slide. Wasn't too overly bothered about it. BUT the penalty was an interesting one. They only scored on the counter because Smith used his arm to gain an advantage. On replays it showed that it hit the black ARMband, so I'm not sure what Keown et al were moaning about.
It basically took half our team out of the game. If he'd not used his arm he would have had to knock the ball out for a corner, or leave it to Hendrick behind him. The main culprit was the lino not flagging. I sit in the Bob Lord and was right behind it. It was a Stone-waller, and should have been given then reviewed by VAR. I'm not a fan of var, but imagine if we'd not had it on Saturday, we'd have all been fuming. If anything, VAR has actually given us a couple of pens for a change.
Overall really enjoyed the game, two sides playing good football.
