The Newcastle match

Post by LoveCurryPies » Sat Feb 22, 2020 5:28 pm

A win next weekend would surely guarantee another year in the PL. :D What a difference a few weeks make.

Players must be buzzing following today’s performances and the recent run of form. Bring them on!!

This team oozes a real, visible , tight knit , togetherness.

I think 37 points has every chance of being enough, so we might already be safe without picking up any more points.

We are safe no IMO.

I'm still of the opinion like the previous penalty v Leicester that was the season turning point

Imagine if we hadn't had a few bad patches without the togetherness . Frightening what Dyche can get out of his players. Surely after we beat Liverpool and secure our champions league place at the end of the season Dyche will be contending with Klopp for MOS.

I am a Big Barnes fan but we have changed our game plan and look a far better team since he got injured. With Barnes playing we were very one dimensional. J Rod is getting fitter and looking better by the week and Vydra is a revelation.

So much better without Barnes. Forces us to at least attempt to play some football and it’s working.

Barnes is a far better player than some on here suggest. Started the season well but then found himself with an injury he couldn't shake off and his form and no doubt self confidence were affected. Very unfair that he is being singled out as responsible for our more indifferent form throughout the season. We seem to like a scapegoat on here.

Barnes is a terrific player, let’s not start knocking him. However, other players have started to perform and that can only be good news.

Chris Wood is reportedly available to play. So, do you start him and take off Vydra or Jay or give him a place on the bench?

Mr Dyche mantra is be ready for when the opportunity arises, then it's your turn to try and keep the shirt.

I think both Jay and Vydra have both done that, so it would be extremely harsh on either to be dropped after 2 wins, and 3 goals in 2 between them.
If we are being honest it could and maybe should have been 5 goals in 2 games for them.

Let's hope they are on the right side of lady luck this weekend.

I don’t get that impression from anything I’ve read, Silky, but the style has undoubtedly changed for the better with VAR up front. Big decision for SD whether to bring Wood back in. At the moment I’d hope no change to team.

VaR have a lot better link up play than WaB, although they all seem to be able to score.

Vydra in mid-field? Westwood is twice the player in that position as he is far more industrious and more physical than Vydra. I suggest we wait and see if Vydra continues to produce the goods up front and if so then Barnes would have to make way. Rodrigues also has a chance to make his position permanent.

On Barnes and Vydra, both great players...but form dips, what doesn't dip is The Shithousery that comes with Barnes, has been and will continue to be a major tool in our armoury.

Can't believe people are knocking Barnes after the woeful performances earlier in the season notably from players like Mee and Lowton. The whole squad is playing better, lets enjoy it and try to find something else to moan about!

Barnes and Wood did well early season and there was a thread about them, that was bumped up pretty much after every game, as they'd played well together. Jay and Vydra are now playing together, but all 4 are just as important as each other.

Fast-forward a few weeks, and we'll probably be saying how good a different X and Y partnership is doing well.

It's exactly what we want. 4 forwards who all offer something significant to the team, when they get their chance.

I'm a big Barnes fan, in fact when we were playing Hendrick in the number 10 role behind Wood I was crying out on here for Dyche to play Wood and Barnes together. However, I have always said we need to play better football and since Jayrod has been in the team we have much more of a link between defence, midfield and attack and our football has definitely improved. With Vydra and Jayrod in the team we have even improved our style of football further: in the last couple of games the whole team has moved further up the pitch due to our better ball retention, against Bournemouth we had Tarks and Mee on the half way line at times starting attacks.
I would keep Vydra and Jayrod together tomorrow, since we can always bring Wood on when Vydra tires (which he does).

We have changed the way we play and I feel that is down to the intellegence of our players and realising that our strikers have different skills.

You could also credit SD with giving them the freedomto attack how they like, as ling as they defend as requested.

The issue here, is not that Barnes is getting undue critiscm,

He was clearly injured and ineffective, but not through a lack of effort,
This is factual information that whilst he was in this condition, we didnt do as well as we could.

This is not a criticism of Barnes - more of SD for picking him and persevering as long as he did. It showed a lasckof faith in the backup players

Vydra was brought in for the midfield okay not in a flat 442 more like a 312 but he was 100% brought in to play midfield not a forward in a role in front of the midfield behind the forwards

J-Rod Brownhill McNeil
............Vydra...............
Barnes ............Wood

A role Westwood could not play

Vydra isn't a midfielder. And I'd be sure he wasn't brought in for midfield.

Dropping back at times to collect the ball from midfield, sure.

Top scorer for the Mags Jonjo Shelvey is available for selection. With five goals so far, he is ahead of seven players on two goals apiece.

£60 million worth Joelinton & Alison have three between them. That fat cockney Ashley needs to get his wallet out and buy some players.

I know I’m placing myself as a hostage to fortune by saying this, but their blunt strike force against our tight defence can not be filling their fans with much hope. We’re going to have to play particularly below our current standards, and they well above theirs in order for them to score. Either that or a Worldie is going to be scored against us.

Barnes ............Wood

A role Westwood could not play

.
No, but Rodrigues could. However, Vydra was not bought as a midfielder - more goals than anyone else in the Championship suggests to me we bought him as a striker. Obviously, he was never going to lead the line as his size prohibits that but don’t suggest we needed him as a midfielder. He is a second striker, playing up front but behind a larger centre forward.

am of the same opinion, however if Liverpool carry on and don't lose then there is no way he will not get it, even with uddles of money that is a huge achievement
