Rovers

Post by TheFamilyCat » Mon Feb 24, 2020 7:11 am

Blackburn (remember them?) are lurking around the fringes of the play-offs, five points adrift but have been moving closer to faltering promotion chasers.

How do you want their season to play out?

Not win another game and slump down the league? Heartbreakingly miss out on the play-offs on GD? Get into the play-offs and fail? Or see them get promoted and watch them spend no money, finish rock bottom after we take 6 points off them then Venky's take the money, run and leave them destitute?

Promotion via the play-offs, followed by immediate, automatic relegation for breaking the Financial Fair Play rules.

In order of preference

They get to the playoff final, and lose to a controversial 93rd minute offside goal by Wells

They score in the last minute to win, resulting in them clinching 6th due to results elsewhere, there's mass joy as fans pour onto the pitch at full time to celebrate, only for there to be a 96th minute goal in the other game to make them drop to 7th.

They don't win another game

I don't want them coming up at all, I want them to have to keep being propped up by Venky's without any extra funds going there.

Venkys are still pumping money in..they wouldnt be up there if they weren't.

And....they're playing some decent stuff...there, I've said it.

If they win promotion Venkys will chuck gazillions at it...it's only a money laundering operation.

Preston or Blackburn coming up would make a decent away day.

Leeds vs Rovers play off final.

Nothing to play for with five to go, slowly slipping down the mid table as the season closes, would do.

I've got to the stage now where I want Preston to come up, I want their fans to experience it. They've paid enough penance, buggering it up in the 2000s, seeing us go up in 09' and then their fiercest rivals a year later from out of nowhere, the relegation, the 4-3 win, the Barton 1-0 at Deepdale...I've had my fun, I'm not so precious about the PL and never wanting to see the nobenders in it anymore, would be a cracking Lancashire derby in the top flight.

Looking like WBA and Leeds for the automatics. I fancy Rovers for the play offs, with PNE running out of steam.

Awful league is the championship this season with some poor to average teams right up to Leeds in 2nd

Should be a better league next season when Norwich, West Ham and Villa join them

WBA have lost 5 matches, and Leeds 8(so far). What we did in 2016 is going to be really hard to beat by any team. The last two truly great Champions of that division were us(2016) and Leicester(2014).

I hate to say it but the ones down the M65 are looking very good just now, that was a great point at Brentford on Saturday. They are apparently, according to the radio, the in-form team in the division just now. I don't want them up, with the potential of Venky's money behind them they may not do as badly as some think. And if they did come up we shouldn't just think it's an easy 6 points, derbys don't work like that. and who wants that shite about the travel anyway?

Because you can count your last penny they will both stay up.

You're joking. Look at the teams who have fallen over due to the pressure of hitting 2nd spot, allowing WBA and Leeds to lose whenever they want.

Not a single team have the balls to finish above Rovers on merit.

A sudden death penalty shootout Play Off final defeat, followed by loads of cut scenes of Wovers fans blubbering uncontrollably would do nicely.

Blackburn are in 8th place, what a strange thing to say.

The last time Blackburn had the chance to go in the top 6 they choked against someone they all expected to beat.

I like beating them. I want them to come up. Same with leeds and preston. A healthy hotbed of football in Lancashire and Yorkshire can only be good for us. I'd much rather play teams that mean something locally to us than (no offence) Bournemouth, Southampton, Norwich, Palace, Brighton (ok, some offence), WHU (definitely offence) Watford etc

I'm not sure it was a great point considering they were 2-0 up,i've looked at their remaining fixtures they've got a tough run in,either facing teams fighting for survival, teams in form,or fellow top 6 contenders,i wouldn't completely rule them out of the play-off picture, but that's mainly due to all the inconsistent dross above them.

It is curious how the 'Venky's Out' mob have gone remarkably quiet all of a sudden, now that the bright lights of the PL is within touching distance, you do wonder if they manage to gain PL status whether the Venky's will cash in their chickens.

It's all a bit uncertain to be sure. Venky's may rekindle their initial interest should they get back to the PL but I'm not sure exactly how much they can do because of FFP. To be honest after some of the things that have happened over the last couple of years I'm not even sure how FFP works any more. I don't know if the Championship is full of rubbish teams or if it is just very competitive but what I do know from our last man standing at work it is impossible to predict and I avoid it like the plague if I can. :D

All this apart and trying to take off my anti-Rovers hat for a minute (it's been stuck on for 50-odd years) I have to admit that they are doing really rather well and, oddly, are much improved since the injury to the 'irreplaceable' Bradley Dack. Strange how an injury to a top player at a club can result in better performances - now where have I seen that recently? Oh yes!

Can never understand the Fakeness surrounding this fixture sure it's good to beat em .. but beating The Bigger teams is good enough for me.all the posturing and poncing about like its a west ham and milwall fixture is Laughable...and they will come up sooner rather than Later. On Money This board goes into melt down if we waste 5 or 6 million on players deemed not good enough f..ck knows how it would react to the 10s of millions they keep throwing at it.

I don't want to see them in the play offs because it's a lottery and anything can happen. Ideally miss out by the closest of margins, Madam Desai swings the axe on Mowbray and we see the return of the special advisor. Step forward the legend that is Shebby Singh

Rovers are not good enough to get to the play offs, but like most clarets fans, should they reach the reach the final, a heavy defeat would be brilliant, having said that i want them nowhere near the PL not now not ever, same goes for weeds really.

Prepared for the eventuality by a strategic £10 at 55-1 after they put five past Wednesday. I’ll gladly sacrifice the money for a 94th minute own goal play off defeat to Nobend. Despite working in Preston for the last 30 years and hating the buggers for much of that time I also feel sorry for the poor saps. That’s despite the fact they still hate us with a passion as any claret fan on the train back from Euston after our Spurs capitulation will have realised.

Agree with that. Would be good to revive old rivalries in the Premier League. Only thing is we seem to do really well against the teams from the south coast. Having said that none may get relegated so we can still take points from them and our local rivals.

Hard to belief but by 62 PNE had already dropped out of the top tier and have not been seen since.Being the only northern small town team must be a big advantage for us on the recruitment front both at first team and academy level so I’d prefer Brentford coming up to play us in our 5th consecutive season in the Prem than any of our local rivals.

Blackburn rovers.

One of only a handful of teams to win the premier league title.

The only one to be relegated from it.

The only one to be relegated from it.

This is no longer the case, unfortunately.

Leicester have both won and been relegated from the Premier League.

However, the claim was that Blackburn are the only team to have won the Premier League and been relegated from it. Nothing was said about the order of the events.
