For us grey-beards, Fabianski gave his own personal tribute to Ray Clemence ( Scotland v England 1976 ) ....

Went to that game. Dalglish hit the 'shot' down at the Celtic end of Hampden. We were at the covered Rangers end.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 10:48 pmFor us grey-beards, Fabianski gave his own personal tribute to Ray Clemence ( Scotland v England 1976 ) ....

To be fair, a rare error from Ray Clemence, as was Shilton's in 1973 against Poland at Wembley ...Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 12:14 amWent to that game. Dalglish hit the 'shot' down at the Celtic end of Hampden. We were at the covered Rangers end.
Scotland's goalkeepers, however, are deserving of their own thread, I think ! How Adam Blacklaw only won 3 Caps is beyond me, although I understand the S.F.A. were reluctant to pick Anglo-Scots at that time, to try to prevent players going south for more money !!

I was only 8 or 9 when England beat Scotland 9-3 in 1961?. Their goalkeeper was Frank Haffey(Celtic) who had an absolute nightmare.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 2:12 amTo be fair, a rare error from Ray Clemence, as was Shilton's in 1973 against Poland at Wembley ...

I was also at the game in 1975 at Wembley when England won 5-1 and again their keeper had a very poor game. Think his name was Kennedy but I stand to be corrected on that.

Stewart Kennedy in 1975 and neither he nor Haffey ever played for Scotland again.
Haffey didn't help his cause when at 9.30 on the following Monday he was pictured stood at the foot of Big Ben holding a newpaper with the headline....."Haffey Passed Nine"....I wonder why.
