High Claims - Nick Pope

Post by Caernarfon_Claret » Tue Feb 25, 2020 4:54 pm

Nick Pope - Top of the goalkeeper stats in two areas:
(I know he's joint top in Clean Sheets but Alisson hasn't conceded as many goals)

High Claims and Sweeper Clearances.

34 High Claims

Second best is Tim Krul with 22

Only 5 Punches

16 Sweeper Clearances

Joint second best are Ben Foster and Bernd Leno with 13

Ederson with 12.

Quite clearly he knows the laws, saw both incidents and knew there was no need to try and save them as they would get chalked off - no need to muddy his kit unnecessarily

Sign of a good un - keeps all the ones out that would’ve counted, doesn’t bother with the rest.

One of those occasions when he's punched came on saturday. It involved coming a long way off his line for a cross from deep and he had clearly misjudged the flight of the ball in the wind. Plenty of keepers- perhaps most - night have hesitated m, tried to get home again or just got caught in no man's land. He had the conviction to keep on coming and make sure that if he could no longer catch the ball, he at least got a good punch in to get it well clear of danger. It was superb keeping.
