Glentoran fans

Post by Quickenthetempo » Tue Feb 25, 2020 9:30 pm

I was talking to a Glentoran fan after the game on Saturday in the cricket club. 16 of them had come over for the match.
Apparently they come over every year and have done since the Glen Little days.

Fair play and nice to see.

Many Glentoran fans adopted Burnley as their second club after we signed Jimmy Mac (in 1950) and Alex Elder (1959) from their club.

We bumped into a group of German lads in The Swan. They'd been supporting Burnley since 1995 and come over twice a season.

I supported the wee Glens 67-69 and was a regular at the Oval whilst exiled in Belfast.
Jimmy Mac was held in high esteem "across the water" though a few missed penalties for N Ireland didn't impress.

We once stayed at a little place on Crete just after the play-off final against Sheff Utd and the owner and his son had watched the game on TV. Turns out the son, Janis, had lived in England for a few years and had adopted Burnley as his team, even though he lived in Doncaster. The place is still going and Janis and his dad still run it. The best cheese and ham toasties in all Greece and it's islands. Also met a guy and his Mrs there from Wolverhampton who were massive Wolves fans, they made me laugh that much I got stomach ache. Kept in touch with them for years. Talking to them by the pool was awkward though cos his wife sunbathed topless. I really did try to look at him when he was talking to me - really - honest.

We were in Crete about 15 years ago on a late in the year cheap 2 week break (had got an all inclusive through Icelolly.com for almost bugger all).

There were a couple by the pool (a Stoke City Fan and his wife) who we got friendly with and chatted most afternoons in resort. She also liked to sunbathe topless, it was difficult not to stare as when she laid down .... her boobs didn't  ....

My wife was chatting to her, and later told me Julie had had implants and they were like that all the time... like bloody ICBM's pointing skywards ready to launch

Top set of lads , known them some years now . Had the pleasure of laying a wreath ( on behalf of all burnley fans ) at the oval on their remembrance day service. If you ever get the chance to over and watch the glens make sure you do , great club and a top weekend away.

Do we currently have a young lad in the youth team who's come over from Glentoran?

I met one in the Paddys bar in Schiphol airport.

He wouldn't shut up about the Northern Ireland links with Burnley, which was nice.

He said that Jimmy Mc was better than Danny Blanchflower. Who was I to argue with that.

Who was more languid? Super Glenn or Jimmy Mac?
