Interesting choice of pub today
This was the view we had when we came out - I'm sure you can pinpoint it.

Re: Interesting choice of pub today
Last time I went under that bridge a few years ago it was full of seagull crap. It was everywhere. You couldn’t walk under the bridge without being pooped on. It was all over the streets and stunk of rotting fish. Really disgusting. Not been back to Newcastle since as it put me right off the city. Looks like things have improved now though? Have they finally put enough nets up to stop then all?

Changed a lot down the Quayside, quite the place to be now. Though I quite often get a bit lost coming up to town from there, I take what I think is the same stone steps and invariably end up somewhere unexpected.

Earl Grey's monument I see there in the background-pioneered the Great Reform act in the 1830's

I think the photo is tricking your eyes. That's the edge of the building opposite which has been built under the bridge I think. Earl Grey's statue and column are at the top of Grey Street with quite a lengthy eulogy attached detailing (as you rightly say) his dedication to political reform. I was only reading it this very morning from the warmth of my seat in the cafe there!
