Pickford and all the other keepers bar McCarthy and DeGea!Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 3:34 pmI'm sure Southgate won't want to be changing his number one so soon before a major tournament but I'm struggling to see how he can justify starting Pickford in England's next international. Looked like he was watching a replay of Pickford's mistake on a phone in the stand and he grimaced. It's got to the point where he can't ignore the respective and contrasting form of Pickford and Pope.
Re: Today's games
The De Gea howler. He deserves a good kick up the arse for that.

On the plus side a win next Saturday will see us above both North London big 6 clubs.

Happy to see Villa go down, but gutted for Heaton not to play the final.

Two nil City, header from a corner which shouldn't have been one. Villa's defence looked poor for the corner, no marking at all.

Why has nobody mentioned Pickford's fantastic save that denied Ighalo?

Re: Today's games
This Villa side can’t defend. It starts at the top. Their forwards don’t have a clue what they should be doing when City have the ball and it’s leaving them outnumbered.
For all of Grealish’s qualities, and he is a very good player, it’s not ideal for a side like Villa to have someone who is practically given a free role.

Re: Today's games
Mentioned on another thread. A very good reaction save that he was able to make due to a hideous flap at the first attempt.
As Roy Keane said, those are saves you expect keepers to make. That’s what they’re paid huge sums of money to do. The sheer number of unforced errors cannot be justified though.

Re: Today's games
There is absolutely no excuse for the amount of unforced errors by both Pickford and De Gea. Both are overrated beyond belief. You want calm assurance and very occasional mistakes from your keeper not flapping and brilliant saves mixed with far too many mistakes...Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 5:09 pmMentioned on another thread. Between Roy Keane and Gary Neville, we may have Pope and Tarkowski starting soon for England.

Re: Today's games
Not sure about that. He was signed by City for close to £50m which was a hell of a lot of money for a defender at the time. He’s then done hardly anything other make high profile mistakes. Not sure the media have turned on him, they’ve rightly reported on those mistakes.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 5:15 pmStones was overhyped by the media then turned on by the same.

Re: Today's games
Slightly different than when celebrities personal lives are infiltrated by the media. John Stones is a sportsperson and his achievements will be reported alongside his errors. And he makes a lot of errors in high profile games. I’d hardly say there’s been any kind of witch hunt against Stones.Pimlico_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 5:16 pmExactly, and looked what can happen when they do that in the entertainment industry.

Re: Today's games
His big money move was a symptom of the hype not a cause, part of it came from his young age at only 22, hardy old enough to lay such huge expectations on.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 5:20 pmNot sure about that. At Everton he was repeatedly praised beyond his ability and assigned very high expectations. Then once these don't materialise the media beat him with the rod they themselves made and we all lap it up like it was our own thoughts and opinions.
They could do the same to Tarkowski or anyone they set their sights on.

Re: Today's games
I very much doubt Man City spent £50m on somebody because they were hyped up by the media.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 5:31 pmHis big money move was a symptom of the hype not a cause, part of it came from his young age at only 22, hardy old enough to lay such huge expectations on.

He’s hardly had the kind of vilification that the likes of Beckham and Sterling have received.

Cracking game, Buxton. City were the better team but Villa hung in there and kept fighting to the end.

Great save at the end, pushing it onto the bar.
Your right, City played some superb football.
But credit Villa for making it a good game to watch.
Gutted for Tom though.

Re: Today's games
An excellent result. Villa, never going to win, kept plugging away and trying to take advantage of City's lack of sharpness in front of goal.
Great to see that turd Grealish flat out on the floor, playing the , "I'm gutted. Look at me. This matters sooooo much." drama queen role.
