Gene Kalvenes; Singing in the Wind.
11 years today, our march to the Play-Offs continued with a scrappy 1:0 win at a half-built Bloomfield Rd, in a howling gale; the game settled by a neat finish from our enigmatic Norwegian left back, Christian Kalvenes, leading to quite some scenes in the temporary golf stand that was the away end.
It was singularly the worst weather/conditions that I have ever watched a match in. Great result, mind.

Certainly be an eye opener for those who complain about conditions in stands these days would that night
Re: Gene Kalvenes; Singing in the Wind.
Great times the weather really was abysmal that night but we left feeling warmer than a summers day ha ha UTC

Re: Gene Kalvenes; Singing in the Wind.
Horrendous conditions and surprised the game even started to be honest, and amazed it continued after the long delay while Lee Mason made a decision. It worked out well for us in the end though. That win and then coming back from 2-0 down to beat Palace in the next game were the two key results that set us up for that final run in.
I do wonder though how on earth Kalvenes was ever selected for a Premier League team.

Earlier in the season we were chatting to a Norwegian football fan (From Bergen) in the JHU before the game. His best friend back in Bergen is Christian Kalvenes.
He was over here to do a few matches and came to watch a Burnley match because of Kalvenes having been here.....
Edited due to f**k up typo thanks JohnMac for pointing it out

That tackle of his on Walker in the box at Wembley was on a knife edge, suspect VAR may well have given it today.

Somebody else (like Bournemouth) finding out that publicly criticising referees isn't a winning tactic.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:16 amThat tackle of his on Walker in the box at Wembley was on a knife edge, suspect VAR may well have given it today.

I was on the open, temporary stands at Blackpool that night. I remember it well because I had a very heavy cold with flu like symptoms that day and to be honest all I wanted was for the match to finish and get home to bed. It was an important three points for us though.

The only other game I recall matching it as a 'Surprise it even Started' affair, was that wet night on the Turf against Chesterfield when we won the title.

I dunno. The New Years Day game against Leicester a few years ago that was abandoned nearly killed me.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 2:18 pmThe only other game I recall matching it as a 'Surprise it even Started' affair, was that wet night on the Turf against Chesterfield when we won the title.

I must have a death wish when it comes to weather, managed to be at all 3 of those, Blackpool, Chesterfield, Leicester NYD. We're northern, just need a big coat.

I think Beamish was linking this in to the fact that the temporary stand for away fans was nicknamed the Gene Kelly stand: "Singing in the Rain".

Re: Gene Kalvenes; Singing in the Wind.
Great night and I’ll never forget The beast trying to take a goal kick 4 times and the wind blowing it backwards. Eventually Caldwell lost patience stormed back to penalty area and made a huge divot with his heal to help keep the ball still for Jensen to kick it.
Kalvenes was a bit slow but a brilliant tackler!
