Scousers
Re: Scousers
I suspect many of the people condemning a whole city because of the actions of a few of their supporters are the same ones that get upset when we get ‘town full of racists’ chants.

I was just waiting for your response to that post mate, it made me chuckle when he said 'you are too young'. I know you have been watching the Clarets since before I was born bud (and I'm no spring chicken).Gordaleman wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 2:43 amToo young eh? I'll almost gurantee I'm older than you. I've been supporting Burnleyfor 68 years and used to love watching Liverpool win the European Cup when it was a purely knockout trophy. I wonder if you even knew that was the case?

Always the victims Ian,i respect your view of them, personally i cant stand the club, the City or its people.houseboy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 9:43 amAh Steve, I came out of the closet years ago and...oops...sorry...wrong site.
On a slightly more serious note I get what you're saying about being attacked mate and that was bad, but Burnley have had their fair share of dickheads in the past and even now probably, as have most football clubs all over the world. I had no less than 3 rubbish encounters with Forest fans years ago but I don't dislike Forest or it's fans (or the city - had a fabulous p!ssed night out there a few months ago). Every club has it's idiots (I know you remember what United fans used to be like before they got all corporate) but that for me is not a reason to dislike them all. My personal experience with Scousers, even away from football, has been nothing but good, and that is, in the end, all you can go off I suppose.
Incidentally you must remember the scrapes we got into sometimes back in the 70's - a few bevvies in the Crown then over to the Turf where anything went. Looking back it was all a bit stupid but it was fun at the time.

Great comedians? Tarbuck and Boardman....gimme Glaswegians any day...no one comes closehouseboy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 9:32 amI was talking REALISTICALLY mate. Everyone on here would like Burnley to win the title but we all no it isn't going to happen. Considering SOMEONE has to win it and it is almost certainly going to be one of the big six (Leiciester excepted) who would you want to win it - it's a simple question, no need to try to logic it out bud. I personally don't want a London club to win it, or United. I don't mind City but they have had more than their fair share of 'luxury' so the only other realistic club is Liverpool. Bearing in mind they have been the standard bearers of English football for years and brilliantly so there is no-one other than us I would want as Champions (and it ain't gonna be us any time soon is it).
As for their fans I love 'em. Scousers are decent but much maligned people and the fans of BOTH clubs there I have found to be both knowledgeable and fair (mostly). I think it is odd that Liverpool get so much stick on here because it is a great place with (for me) excellent people. I think that their wit sometimes comes accross as arrogance and maybe that is what many people don't get, but if you listen they put themselves down a great deal, it's not a coincidence that the city has produced so many great comedians.

That's fair enough mate, you can only take as you find. Problem for some about scousers though (and not you bud) is that their opinion of them seems to be based on what they read in the papers. And we all know what The Sun thinks.

They'll win the league, they deserve to win the league and I'd rather them win it than anyone else up there near the top.
As for Scousers, they have been absolutely fantastic at the Turf this season with our food collections, both Everton and Liverpool and Dave Kelly from Everton was a massive help to me when we were setting up Clarets for Foodbanks. I'll be forever grateful to him and Ian Byrne (Liverpool) for all the help they gave us.
And to that ridiculous comment that they are hated by everyone. You want to take a long look at yourself making nonsensical comments like that.

Nothing against them at all.
Daughter went to university there and she absolutely loved the place.
I worked in Manchester for 30 years and working with city and united fans for so long United fans especially were the most arrogant bitter fans I have ever come across.
That said from a purely footballing point of view I loved to watch the United team with Giggs, Scholes etc and after they themselves went for so long without winning the title I was pleased when they did. I feel the same about Liverpool now because they are a great side to watch and enjoy watching them. I also have great memories of their teams with Keegan, Daglish, Steve Heighway etc - how could you not enjoy them winning European cups when they were representing England ?
Of course peoples dislike of teams or places are tainted by individual memories...but for me from a footballing point of view it just comes and goes based on the teams / managers at the time. I could not stand Souness as a player or an individual so wanted them to do badly when he became manager - and they did !
Felt exactly the same about United under Mourinho - just like I do now about Spurs. How anybody can dislike Liverpool more than a team managed by that despicable pr-ick personally I cannot understand.
Plenty of teams I just don’t like because I never have - Blackburn, Bolton, Leeds, Arsenal etc.
Hardly makes an of us closet reds though does it ?!!!

Re: Scousers
It's no coincidence that Liverpool's form has dipped since Henderson has been out of the side.
I'm convinced Liverpool would have won the league in 2014 if he hadn't got a straight red v City late in the season — it was during his suspension that they lost to Chelsea and had their tummies tickled in the second half v Palace, effectively handing the title to City.

Typical irrational statement - kind of stance The Sun took about Hillsborough.
Would you say that about United and how they commemorate the Munich disaster every year ? (which of course they are entitled to do).

Not sure if it's still allowed with all seater stadia, but Everton and Liverpool fans used to mix on the terraces and there was never a hint of trouble. Where else would you see that?

Spot on Henderson's their heartbeat, ditto Laporte at Man City,it just shows that despite the large squads these days, the absence of key players can even impact the biggest clubs.Peebs89 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 10:12 amIt's no coincidence that Liverpool's form has dipped since Henderson has been out of the side.

Henderson missing a few PL games won't make much difference as they're so far ahead, but they'll be desperate to get him back for the CL.
I find some of the comments on this thread bizarre even by UTC standards, why would anybody hate any club, dislike maybe but hate ,i reserve my hatred for murderers, paedophiles and terrorists, football isn't that important to get so worked about.
If Liverpool go on to win the league, which i'm sure they will, good luck to them, they were incredibly unlucky last season,97 points and only 1 league defeat all season, would in any normal season ensure you lift the title.

Re: Scousers
I have to admit to chuckling a bit to their rendition of Merry Christmas Everton chant.
That said I’ve never liked the club since the 80s when they seemed to get all the decisions or on occasion appeared to be very lucky. Our Milk Cup semi first leg being a good example of how lucky they could be...and as for the day they last won the title, I was there in the away end with a QPR supporting mate of mine when they got a penalty for someone being fouled about a yard outside the box...
The year Arsenal beat them to the title was quite funny I recall....

On the contrary. My life has rarely been smoother (except my dad’s health).
In fact I’m currently looking forward to several digs in archives, over the coming weeks research. The national football archive in particular.
Knowing me you’ll know how buzzing I am about access to that lot being confirmed.

Mane and Salah for example were £30m each and now worth nearer to £150m each.
Also forgotten that they sold Coutinho for £135m, Ibe for £16m, Solanke for £20m, Ings for £20m etc.
Their net spend combined with the value of their current squad is about as impressive a transfer record as any team in the world in the last 5 years.

To sell Coutinho arguably their best player at that moment to but Allison and VVD is genius. What club would do that?

Perhaps the people who should feel most pain at that list should be Southampton fans.

Chelsea full of racist national front idiots.
Celtic and Rangers are animals - Celtic did a lot worse in Burnley than Liverpool have ever done and I saw what Rangers did first hand in Manchester for that Europa league final and in 45 years of following football I have never seen anything like it.

The moral of the story being every place has its scumbags. Hating a whole population on that basis is a lot of wasted hate....

Sorry Neil I can't agree. I dislike the Red half of Merseyside with a vengeance and as for their fans being friendly that is a load of bo**ocks. I'd laugh my head off if they managed to screw this one up.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 6:11 amScousers are kind hearted and generous to all opposition fans as long as they are not Cockneys,Mancs or Wools(anyone from Lancashire) and Leeds(most of the football world hate Dirty Leeds)

But wobetide you ,if like we will do so this season, win at Anfield, then things get really nasty. I am fortunate to have taught in Liverpool and can put on a passable Scouse accent, which has served me well in the good old days when fans mixed together on the terraces
This was useful when Ian Brennans rocket helped us to a very rare win at the Theatre of Thieves.
All said, being brought up close to Merseyside,I dont begrudge the Scallies the title.
Sooner them than anyone else except the Super Clarets of course UTC
