Well that was a let down, slightly. The three guys make decent music but without Hackett and (especially) Gabriel it’s not what I was hoping. Supper won’t quite be ready alas.

It was never going to be the full reunite as they don’t want to work together again. I read a few months back that if they did tour again Collins wanted his son to play drums instead of Chester.

I thought they were called Mega Drive over here?

I wouldn’t have thought Collins would’ve been fit enough for a tour.

Are they down to the last ten of millions in the bank.
No doubt it will be pushing £100 a ticket.
Play one of the better older albums and look at a poster.
Will be more movement than on stage.

I’m on my own here but Gabriel leaving Genesis was the best thing that happened to both.
The band went more mainstream but produced some cracking tracks, he went more world music and did the same.

That apparently is going to happen because Collins can't play much now because of some long term injury or something. It's a shame because despite the stick that he has got over the years from a lot of people the guy is an absolutely insanely good drummer.

All the singers and bands I liked in the late sixties/early seventies offer nothing original anymore and struggle with the singing. This is not a surprise as voices change and deteriorate. It's sad but has to be accepted. All they offer now is a nostalgia fest, not a bad thing I suppose but not for me.

One of my favourites, Iain Matthews, is still working, but I made the decision a few years ago to no longer check his new stuff out. It's poor as far as I'm concerned. It's tough when you've followed their musical development for forty years but that's the reality.

Here's an extreme example. John Stewart wrote and sang Daydream Believer which became famous with The Monkees. I liked the original:

I'm not certain mate, it may well be that. I just know he can't drum for long now, which is kinda sad. I think he had a serious fall as well a couple of years ago that wound up with him being in hospital.
Anyone who doubts his ability needs to listen closely to the Apocolypse in 9/8 section of Supper's Ready, it's a piece of pure magic.

I agree to a point bud. Genesis were never as good without him in my opinion, although they did make some excellent albums, but without the band Gabriel went on to record some very original and experimental stuff, whilst still gaining a certain amount of commercial success. But together they were a bit special and Foxtrot is still one of my top ten albums of all time. Oddly my favourite non-Gabriel Genesis album is Duke, they were truly inspired when they recorded that album.

I am guessing tickets will be on the top side of £100 but I'll still try and see them. One last time and all that. If you don't fancy it I would strongly recommend Steve Hackett who is playing the whole of the Seconds Out live album on tour this November. Failing that there is an excellent tribute band called Musical Box who are reviving Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in its entirety next Feb in Manchester. Saw them last month and they are top notch!

The only reunion of Genesis should be with Peter Gabriel...would willingly pay £100 to see that,without Gabriel not for me thanks.

My brother went to see the "Six Of The Best" concert at Milton Keynes when the original line-up reformed in 1982 to rescue Gabriel's WOMAD financial disaster.

Peter Gabriel was carried out in a coffin to open the concert. It rained heavily all day and my brother watched the entire show wearing a bin-liner with eye-holes cut out.

last time I saw collins on a tv documentary, he had to have the sticks gaffer taped to his hands to keep a grip on them.
No idea whether that was due to injury or illness.
Not my type of music, but he was undoubtably a great drummer.

I was working with Gordon Huntley (pedal steel) and I happened to ask him to autograph a MSC compilation album, apparently Gordon didn't know anything about it (therefore missing out on royalties) saying it was typical and was calling IM fit to burn.

He said he would have to have a word.

Just heard that O2 priority tickets went on sale yesterday at £130 - £180. Don't think I'll bother!

I should of course have said I like his music. I get the impression he sees himself as a delicate artist in a slightly snobbish way.

With Matthews Southern Comfort they had a 'number 1, Top of the Pops' with Woodstock in November 1970 and it seems he couldn't handle all the media stuff that goes with it along with all those band tensions you might get. It was his band but others wanted a bigger say in musical decisions and more money. It culminated in him walking off the stage after a sound check before a concert. The remnants continued as Southern Comfort and produce three more albums before going their separate ways. There's no question Matthews was the real talent. Looking back, as he does in his seemingly honest book 'Thro' My Eyes' he regrets not being stronger and more able to cope with all this. On the financial side the band were on a wage but this was increased as their popularity did. Later to appease demands from band members he gave each of them 10% of the royalties leaving 50% for himself but he had to pay management fees etc. and writes that he probably paid them too much.

He says he was a bit afraid of Gordon Huntley as he would tell him stories of past mischief - flying with Bomber Command in WW2, dance hall fights, prison - a couple of pages in the book. Matthews was later told that whilst the other members of the band accepted the situation Huntley had told them he was going to kill Matthews!

Matthews appeared on the first three Fairport Convention albums (1967-68) and proved himself to be one of the finest vocalist of the times. He appears at their Oxfordshire reunions every August and can still hold the notes.
Incidentally Steve Hackett is also appearing at this year's Fairport reunion no doubt performing early Genesis.

Just bought Steve Hackett tickets instead, £46 and Musical Box for next year at £30. Disappointed as Genesis were the first band I saw back in 1981 at Leeds Queens Hall. £5 a ticket then. But I suppose that’s inflation for you!
