To me that started when pubs thought they could serve you a ceramic dish filled with some kind of lumpy molten liquid with a misshaped piece of puff pastry wedged in on top. And then point you to the dictionary definition of 'pie'.
Maybe Doug.
I think that it's down to mass production and the thought that all of the population are happy eating cheap crap.
We are a greedy nation (money wise) and it's all about profit rather than pride.

I always take a Pork pie to the Turf. Beeches pies from Barrowford are excellent.
I usually save it for the 2nd half and started noticing that we quite often score while I'm eating it. It's become a point of conversation around me. I know that there are some wierd superstitions in football and this is now mine.
Last game we scored 2 when I was eating it!
Well, that failed yesterday. I was even trying to eat really slowly!

I know Cissy Greens has its fair share of fans, but I much prefer D.T Laws. They sell decent mushy peas as well.
Haffners chicken and mushroom are the biz.
You can't go wrong with anything bought in Keelham Farm Shop. There's a good reason why it's nearly always packed out.
I could eat a decent hot pie right now!

Holland’s seem to be using a different pastry yesterday at the game.
Also Beech’s can’t be beaten, best steak pie and sausage roll known to man.

Stanforth's in Skipton for the best pork pies
Chamleys pies at Steeton, also worth a mention.
