Premier League games 'likely' to be played behind closed doors amid Coronavirus fears

I'm not sure I understand the logic of this. Surely, if an infected person attends a football match, he's highly unlikely to infect more than the four or five people around him, not the entire gate.
The same applies on mass transit systems like the London Underground. An infected person might infect a few peple in a carriage, but not the whole system.
Where would these people be if not at a match? Shopping? In and out of many different places, possibly in contact with many different people. Surely, attending a match is no worse than that?
I'll be at the Turf on Saturday, assuming it goes ahead, and I won't be thinking about Covid-19 even though I have severe heart problems and I'm definitely in the 'At risk' group.

My Mrs is pregnant and we are taking no chances, the 6 year old came home with flu like symptoms so we have put the two man tent up in the garden with plenty of duvets and she’s out there now, think she understands.

Could be a blessing in disguise. Majority of football fans watch it on the TV nowadays so live crowds just get in the way.
Might be a tough one to swallow for the older fans but the game needs to move with the times and stay relevant

Sure your joking, but the evidence is it has no effect on pregnant ladies or the baby.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 6:57 pmMy Mrs is pregnant and we are taking no chances, the 6 year old came home with flu like symptoms so we have put the two man tent up in the garden with plenty of duvets and she’s out there now, think she understands.

I was thinking this the other day, can’t understand why clubs waste money on big stadiums. It would also stop people missing out on away game ticketsDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 6:58 pmCould be a blessing in disguise. Would Season Ticket Holders get a refund on any games they could not attend.

When you think about it all games are played behind closed doors, otherwise people would just walk in whenever they chose.

Re: Premier League games 'likely' to be played behind closed doors amid Coronavirus fears
If you turn up, go to your seat and stay there you’re not going to get infected. The virus is out now and has gone past the point of containing it so just let it run it’s course. Funny how they are talking of stopping football games before they talk of stopping buses and trains. Public transport is probably one of the biggest places we’re viruses are past on, football grounds aren’t. Think about how many people on buses have touched them grab poles and pressed that stop button just in the last hour before you.
Just treat every game as a boxing game day. No one travel on public transport and it’ll be reet. Prefer that then playing behind closed doors!

What would be the point of stopping public events and closing schools, but keeping shops and workplaces open? How would it slow the spread?
