sanitising gel

Post by pushpinpussy » Thu Mar 05, 2020 7:40 pm

Apparently running out stock in all major stores. The companies who make sanitising gel must be rubbing their hands together.

I saw on the news yesterday one company actually making 30 times more bottles than they usually do.

They also had the same joke as the OP

Trading standards have said they will prosecute those that over inflate. Supply & demand I’m afraid, airports, sports arenas etc all do it

Has the price of soap and hot water gone up yet? sanitizer gel is pretty much useless without washing your hands first.

Make your own

Use Benzalkonium Chloride, which is a common algae and moss killer. Usually available in 50% dilution and it will need diluting further to 0.1% or 0.2% to make it safe to use on your hands.

Take 2ml of Benzalkonium Chloride and mix with 1000ml of water. Then mix the solution again one part BC to 9 parts water to get it down to about 0.1%.

Add a small amount of glycerin to moisturise and pour it into a pump bottle. When you press the pump, it will create a foam that can be rubbed into your hands and kill all the beasties.

It's literally the most effective way of removing bacteria and germs from your hands.

Well it does get rid of germs and bacteria yes you are correct but without your hands being clean in the first place there is no point.

Wash your hands in hot soapy water for around 30 seconds or so it should be fine. For extra protection you can also use the hand sanitizer but without washing your hands first you are basically just spreading the dirt around your hands.

I'm struggling with the logic of this. If sanitiser gets rid of germs and bacteria, then what difference does it make if your hands are 'dirty' and you are just spreading that dirt around?

Not much talking as they're all too busy working overtime to cash in on a virus which doesn't even seem to affect your bowels, but which for some reason means we all need to buy toilet paper to combat. Maybe people are putting it over their faces when they're on the tube! I don't know.

Excellent.

I’m sure I have all those ingredients already stashed away somewhere.

Believe it's supply chain issues with raw materials given all the blank sailings from China since CNY.

My hands are badly blistered as the water was too hot when I washed them yesterday but what made it worse I couldn't remember the words to "Happy Birthday to you" and when I finally cracked it at the 3rd attempt I had no idea whose birthday it was. :? :?

My company supply schools, colleges and local authority businesses across Herts, Beds, Essex, Suffolk, Notts and the wider South East. We have sold 7 months stock of a range of hand sanitizing products in a week. We are more or less out of all these type of products and cannot get an expected delivery date from any of our suppliers for restocking.

I never heard of an Egyptian Mummy getting the virus so maybe that’s the key. Get yourself wrapped up.
Pretty sure they used Andrex exclusively back then.

people are generally filthy ********, many dont wash hands after using the bog, and a lot of hospital probs were thought to be caused by staff not washing hands and spreading germs to other patients. mrsa for example.
buying up stocks of hand gel will achieve nothing to prevent coronavirus spreading. it will benefit the manufactures of the gloopy stuff though.

Agreeing with you, " Wile ", also, what about coins, and the bugs and lurgies they contain ? The son and heir hands us around £500 of coins from his business's vending machines each month, which we soak in mild bleach, before putting through a dish washer cycle. They're then bagged, and a local Cafe and Butchers take them off us. A small step, but whatever ...

Flu vaccine uptake amongst NHS staff is sub 70%, which is shocking. About ten years ago, I worked next to an NHS Office, and one of the women there told me she refused to have the jab, so she could claim she had the Flu every December, have 10 days off , and sort her Christmas Shopping out ! Not all NHS workers are underpaid Angels of the NHS !! Horrible woman !
