How's it bad timing? You get to visit Riga. You miss a football match. I'll swap if you want.

What ?? You would rather be in Riga (wherever that is) than watching Clarets v Tottenham at the turf ??

I am. But it's not the only thing I'm a fan of. A spell in Riga would outweigh a league match against Spurs.

Riga - beautiful little city. Definitely not a bad place to be if you arent at the turf!

I missed Swansea away when I was there... thank god!

Was in Riga just over 2 weeks ago . Really enjoyed it. Everything to be seen is in,walking distance if you stay in old town. Loads of bars. Will definitely be shown somewhere

I came back from Riga last week.
I stayed at the Avalon Hotel (lovely place) across the road and railway you will find 3 arched buildings, these were where Zeplins were made back in the day, they now form part of a BIG market, worth wandering around, markets are daily 8am to 6pm. Quite a humbling experience when you see an old dear trying to sell a few flowers to make ends meet.

Go up St Peters Church tower.

The park and freedom monument are nice.

Head through the park to the Russian embassy, the demonstration signs from locals are worth a look.

Also other side of the park you'll see loads of art nouveaux buildings, if that's your thing. Mainly on Elizabeth and Athur streets.

Some bars in the squares have live music on at night's.

I liked the bars down by the Powder Tower myself, good mix of tourists and locals, especially on a Saturday evening.

Behind the Avalon Hotel I found a great little bar called My Beer, beers served from all around the world, they even sell for carry out.

Enjoy!

There’s a nice little traditional Latvian music and food venue I came across while I was there called “folklubs ala pagrabs” which is just round the corner from the armoury bar too. Lovey little city, was cold in January though 🙈

I went there once, on business. Across from the hotel was a coffee shop, and as I was in there grabbing my morning Joe, the younger ladies, heading to the day jobs, were dressed ready for their night out after their day jobs finished. It was quite the shock
