William Cunliffe shop Briercliffe Road
Anyone remember this shop? It was my Great Uncle's back in the 60's.
Mum vaguely remembers it but it'd be nice to hear if anyone else has any memories. I don't know much about my family and I'm curious to learn.

He was quite tall and balding with a dry wit. she might have had silver/ peroxide blonde hair and was small and brassy, I think they were always amused when I went in with one item on my shopping list , 20 Senior Service. There was an Ironmongers opposite and a Bakers where the tanning shop is, Happy days, Ish. Then again I could be wrong, 60 years ago. Remember it well, sold Mambos think it was also known as Mavis's. Used to get sent there to collect "bellair" hair lacquer for my mum, mid 60's great days

Yes indeed, my Great Aunty Mavis.
Never met either of em, mind.
Unfortunately I didn't inherit the height off them either, all my Grandad's brothers, including Bill were 6'1+ I believe!
My Gran's side of the family apparently had a bookies up near Brennand Street back in the day too.

Goodness Mambos must be the first time in 40 years that they have shot into my mind .Pommieclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 10:39 amRemember it well, sold Mambos think it was also known as Mavis's. Used to get sent there to collect "bellair" hair lacquer for my mum, mid 60's great days
Always recall how hard they were to open and must have lost count how many of them ended up on the floor when you pressed too hard at the bottom .
Go on how many of you dusted them down and put them back in the wax paper thing ?
I always did
